The West Coast of Cumbria has some of the cleanest and wildest beaches (for fishing) in England. This is Silecroft beach with the flag flying for the Clean Beach award which has to be changed every couple of weeks after it has been ripped to shreds by the winds. Looking out to sea from here you can see the Isle of Man on clear days, and .......... Hundreds of offshore windmills, love 'em or hate 'em. "Visable damp on the bathroom wall by the shower and a very strong smell of damp in the downstairs area including bedrooms. The owner tried to disguise the smell with air fresheners and by leaving the windows open but the smell of damp was still immediately apparent on entry. Had we been staying longer than 2 nights and not arrived so late in the evening on the first night we would have left. It was a real shame because everything else about the property and surrounding area was beautiful, but...

"Lovely cottage with living space upstairs so you can enjoy views over the valley. Cottage is kept well and wouldn’t consider it ‘tired’ as some reviews indicate. The sofas are now a nice grey, rather than the red in photos. It isn’t near any shops etc bar pubs but nothing is too far away. Try the lovely bake house born and bred at Greenodd. "Highly recommend staying here in the woodland cabins. We had a 3 night stay here with our dog and it was great. The cabin is comfortable and comes with all amenities needed, as well as a hot tub to relax after long walks around the Lake District. It’s located close to a trail which runs all the way to Lakeside on Lake Windermere. From here you can get boat trips and ferries to most places. Breakfast was standard full English, with cereals, pastries and tea / coffee. This was ok and self serve. We ate in the restaurant also and the food menu for dinner was very good, serving nice local sourced food which we enjoyed. Staff were friendly and helpful with requests. We would stay again for definite!"
