"We stayed 3 nights. We had a room facing the river with two twin beds, a mall sofa and another small bed. The room was very clean and comfortable. Bathroom also very clean with a toilet room and shower. The hotel seems fairly new and is nicely decorated. The room was very quiet and had good air conditioning. A free shuttle will take you to the Shirakawa bus station (which is right near the gassho zukuri) and pick you up on a designated schedule. Many of the staff speak English. We got the breakfast and dinner included in our room plan and the meals were all delicious. Many dishes were new to us. A mix of beef and seafood. The third night’s dinner was amazing with sashimi, Hida beef sushi, and lobster hot pot (seems the more nights you stay the more amazing the food gets). The staff was very friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend this hotel if you want to stay in Shirakawa overnight but not do a farmhouse stay."

"We really enjoyed our time here and appreciated the experience so much. There was some confusion about what we were supposed to do sometimes, and we thought dinner and breakfast were served in our room but we needed to go elsewhere. It was private dining at least. Also wish we'd had futons set out for all of us. The room was meant to be for 6 and had 2 beds. We were only 3 people so could have had the futons and not used the beds, but i think the language barrier led to a misunderstanding in which they thought the 2 adults wanted the beds so only 1 futon was set out before bedtime. The beds were fine; i was just a little disappointed not to have a traditional futon. The grounds were lovely and food was delicious. Especially loved the private onsen and patio in our room."

"Lovely getaway for an authentic Japanese Onsen bathing experience. The suite room was gorgeous and came with a private bath which was very worth it for me ! Many delicious local restaurant options nearby too. Staff knew enough English to get us settled. Highly recommend for 1-2 nights as part of your trip. "

"Convenient, clean, new, parking right next door. Plenty of food places around. Staff is efficient and helpful, can smile just a tad bit more. "

"Ryokan’s kaiseki dinner was finely executed and delicious. Ryokan has a “lion “ dance show in evening for guests, a bonus. Room size was smaller than we expected but adequate. Location was okay as apart from some stores around the square, there was nothing else around the area. "

"There were just a few English speaking employees, Iwata was one of them and then the facility was a little dated but they tried hard to keep it up to par; our first room was clean except that the bathroom had a rotten wooden panel that I discovered was the cause of the smell, so after spending time with 3 people for a few hours I had the room changed to a newly refurbished and clean one...maybe because of the whole situation I got some allergies going, not pleasant. The outside area is kept clean but there were some visible area (from the windows) that looked in shambles considering that the lake & mountain views were nice, so I pointed that to the manager and staff. Dining is limited and there is JoJo restaurant near by/across the street that hit the spot. The Onsen area was good and my wife used it many times, so communication had his changes and beware of the older rooms that might have some issues that should be addressed asap with pictures with the staff."
