"Hotel In Pietra is a fantastic choice for visiting Matera. The entrance/lobby could not be more grandiose - it used to be the XIII century church of San Giovanni. I used room 1004, large, tastefully furnished, comfortable, and with probably the best balcony view over the old city. The staff is friendly and most helpful. I will certainly return."

"This hotel was amazing and the service was even better. We decided to walk through Matera from the parking structure to the hotel but got lost. One of the staff members walked out to find us and bring us to the hotel. Then, because it was late, he called a local restaurant and asked them to keep the kitchen open while we hurried down to have dinner. "

"This place is awesome. Our room had a small balcony overlooking the city that was incredible. Yes, the room is small but considering your in a building that is hundreds and hundreds of years old, maybe thousand of years, who cares! You have a window overlooking the 3rd oldest city in the world! Yes, it is about a15 minute walk from the parking garage to the hotel but you have to walk everywhere in Matera anyway, and once you make a turn close to the hotel and see the city for the first time , it will be all worth it. Suggest packing a couple of backpacks with everything need like we did. Would advise against trying to wheel large suitcases over the uneven pavement and stairs."

"Cannot recommend this hotel enough. Our room in a cave was unique and beautiful. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We did a private wine tasting which included wines made at their winery and a lot of good local history; their sister restaurant also was great for dinner. The location is perfect, easily walkable to the entirety of Matera. "
