A very unique place close to San Cristóbal de las Casas.
The reason to go is the church. The religion of the people of Chamula is a very special mix between Mayan religions and Christianity. When you enter the church you find yourself in another world. There are no benches, the floor is covered in pine needles and there are thousands of candles on the floor. Shamans murmur spells, there are chicken sacrifices and the whole atmosphere is a bit surreal.

"The hotel itself was not too bad but be aware there is a small bar and a nightclub directly across the small street that are both VERY, VERY loud until about 2am every night! We could feel the vibration of the music not to mention the sound of music and people all night long."

HOTEL PLAZA 79

"This a new and 5 star quality boutique hotel that can easily be compared to St Regis or Ritz Carlton! We stayed here for 5days and had a wonderful time as a family! During our stay here in July 2025, we felt we were the only guests in this hotel which felt strange. We also ate at their restaurant where we saw very few guests but were not staying in the hotel. All the staff from rest, bar, front desk and housekeepers were professional, courteous, and kind. The only drawbacks to this hotel was location. It was a distance away from the plaza and Centro. Uber doesn't work in Chiapas so hailing a taxi takes time from the hotel. The solution, befriend a local taxi driver and text them when you want them to pick you up. A few suggestions to even elevate this hotel: 1) have a heated pool (no other luxury hotel in San Cris has a pool). There is a garden courtyard where a pool can fit on one side of the walkway. 2) have hair dryers in the bathrooms. Strange that a lux hotel didn't have one (or is it only upon request?)."

"Durante nuestra visita a San Cristóbal de las Casas, nos hospedamos en Plaza Magnolias Suites y la verdad fue una excelente elección. Un lugar cómodo, limpio y con una ubicación muy conveniente para explorar la ciudad. Nuestro único detalle fue la disponibilidad de agua caliente, que no siempre estaba al 100%, y el hecho de que no ofrecen desayuno, algo que se extraña porque en las inmediaciones no hay tantas opciones buenas para comer en la mañana. Fuera de eso, todo estuvo genial: atención amable, habitaciones agradables y un ambiente tranquilo para descansar después de un día de recorrer las calles y mercados de San Cristóbal. Sin duda, un lugar al que volveríamos."
