Beautiful black sand beach in Dominica the beach bar sells very fresh fried dolphin fish and bakes. Black sand feels so different from the white one it’s so soft and has bigger granules.

Whales aren't the only cetaceans around Dominica - these rough-toothed dolphins were a fabulous surprise. They are typically found far off-shore, but the deep water around Dominica allows them to venture a bit closer than normal. More than two dozen of them flirted with the boat for a quarter of an hour before they grew bored and moved on. We tried to get in the water with them, but they seemed quite disinterested.
