  • We spent yesterday arvo bush-bashing down to the Zig Zag Railway viaducts above Lithgow, NSW and looking around the place for a few hours. In this shot you can see the No. 1 Viaduct on the Top Road track. A little further down is the larger No. 2 Viaduct. And on the Bottom Road (which is the train line near the bottom of this pic) is the No. 3 Viaduct. Comprising rock cuttings, classical sandstone viaducts and tunnels, the Lithgow Zig Zag was, and remains to this day, a magnificent piece of engineering. Construction of this part of the rail system began in 1866 and was completed by the late 1890s. The line was decommissioned in 1910 with the construction of the Ten Tunnels deviation which is still in use today by state rail. Back in the early 1970s, volunteers worked to bring the line back into operation as an iconic tourist railway which ran for decades, bringing with it tourism dollars to the wider Lithgow area. In 2013, a huge bushfire swept through the area and destroyed a lot of the infrastructure and equipment used by the Zig Zag Railway. Since that day work has proceeded to slowly bring the tourist train line back into operation It is hoped it'll be up and running again in the next year or so. Loved every bit of this place. To begin with, we were welcomed by the famous Alpacas! The receptionist was really friendly. Room was clean and well equipped, the view from room was extravagant. Our friends, the Roos, the horses, the alpacas and some bunny paid visit in the backyard which we greatly enjoyed. Hot tub is a great size. Bed was comfy. Everything you could ask for in a peaceful escape from city.

The perfect country escape

Loved everything about our stay! The location is so peaceful and remote. But close enough to Blackheath to enjoy hiking and it has a great little pub nearby. The owners were very welcoming and accommodating. We loved the private spa, valley /lake views and firepit.

Great for Anniversaries

Absolutely loved our stay at Eagle View Escape. It was a surprise for my husband for our 1 year anniversary. Did not matter what the weather was like. Just a nice secluded place to unwind and reconnect.

Amazing property, very welcoming and friendly staff. We got the lovely cabin which has its own spa and it was very comfy, with a fire in the chimney as we got it. Very calm and peaceful. The location in the countryside is far but worth the trip. There is tennis and pool table on site. We even got to feed the alpacas!

Great stay just needed to stay there atleast 2 days as 1 day not enough. Nice room, gas fire place was awsome to have in room keep us warm, great shower as it has a rain shower head on it. Awsome view from room and plenty of space. It was fun meeting the Alpacas and feeding them. It was good also to meet the horses . Staff was great to talk too very friendly and very committed to you having a great stay. Place was so quiet and relaxing as no kids being noisy as it is a adults only place. Tennis court, games room, pool table. Food was nice what we had. Cant wait to go again.

Lake View Escape

The property was lovely, especially having a walk down to the lake, a communal games room. Our room was nicely laid out and in good repair. It was a great experience overall that I'd recommend and feeding the alpacas was memorable, but it was spoilt in a minor way by the long access road having many potholes and the generally lack of phone data or wi-fi at the room. Overall it was quite beautiful and a fun break, but for the price I felt that it needed a little more.
