Ptuj is the oldest town in Slovenia. Not the biggest place, but a few notable things to see and do including the castle, historic centre and the thermal spa.

Regular buses to Maribor (hourly) are €3.60 and take 30 minutes - see arriva.si.
There is also a train station which connects to Maribor, Ljubljana and Murska Subota.

"One of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely lady who spoke perfect English. We had originally booked a room but we were upgraded to an apartment which I recommend. I would have book an apartment if I’d have know how great they are. The view was absolutely amazing, kitchen facilities which we used for all our meals instead of eating out. Very clean and tidy. The apartments are at the very top of the mountain so it’s very peaceful and quite. "

"Lovely hotel and stay with Yuri and Sasha. The a/c wasn’t on yet so we had the windows open. The bar patrons across the street and under us were very loud till very late though. "
