It's a fun place, we watched a movie, listened to live music in the wine room, put our feet in the warm tropical pool that makes you feel like you're on an exotic vacation someplace far away. We ate off site, walked around Troutdale which is very cute and had a room next to the fire exit, which was ok, bathrooms down the hall weren't a problem, overall good.
I will never stay anywhere else when I come to Portland, I don’t think! This place is magical. We only spent one night, 5 days ago and I can’t stop thinking about it. My daughter and I are artists, I’m a designer and she’s in illustration school. It was so immersive, creative and relaxing and the perfect place for a true getaway. Stay more than one night! There’s so much to see.
We loved the big soaking pool. We had a great time with our friends and I was able to have a great time even though I am sober! So many places to see and get my book stamped. My friend celebrated her 40th birthday and everyone had a great time. For improvement no soap in one of the showers two days in a row. 3rd floor.
I was pretty disappointed with much of the staff. Many were unhelpful and a some were outright rude, especially at check in. The grounds were lovely and the food was good. The rooms could be so much cleaner and more comfortable.
Cozy hidden nooks, fabulous gardens, surprise out buildings, comfy porches, and a relaxing soaking pool on a well preserved historical property make this a fun getaway. Fluffy robes provided to use going to and from the pool are a nice touch.

Food was great and the soaking pool was awesome ! The little bar at the soaking pool has great tea selections!
It's not a luxury hotel, but it is interesting! Be forewarned - no TVs in the rooms. Lots to do and see here. Plan to take time to explore all that they offer. There's even a movie theater with the latest movie (we saw the Mandalorian movie!) One thing I would suggest to the management - invest some money in buying new sheets for the beds. Ours had a hole and stains on it. The food at the Black Rabbit restaurant was awesome, as well as the waitress, Shannon!
The food was delicious. Very pleasant staff.
The hot pool the best. It was a little noisy at night because the building is old and does not have good insulation.. the room temperature was perfect. The view from my room was calming and beautiful.
The room was cute. I had good meals and libations at the tavern. I had a facial at the spa which I didn't enjoy.

McMenamins Edgefield is an experience, and we've stayed there a number of times. The rooms, for the most part, are from another era (it used to be the county "poor farm"), but the grounds are spectacular, the heated outdoor pool is stunning at night. The food is somewhat expensive, but my wife and I shared a grilled Ahi appetizer that was outstanding- probably the best I've ever had. It was a hot day (89 degrees) the last day we were there and the Strawberry Basil Crush (with some fancy Vodka) was fabulous. McMenamins is also known for its sturdy home brewed beers. There are several restaurants and numerous places to imbibe (I can think of at least 8) - including some that are almost hidden on the property. It's a mob scene if there is a concert booked (Bob Dylan was playing a couple of days after we left). But on non-concert days you can wander the property, take a dip in the pool and check out the remarkable gardens in relative peace.
absolutely wonderful staff and property and and amenities. I will definitely stay here again. I stayed in the women’s hostel. The soaking pool is delightful. I had a great time at the Halloween dance, and then I soaked in the big clawfoot bath in the shared bathrooms.
