We loved the location, the Gull island right across from the house. Lots of wildlife to see. The property could use some minor upgrades on pans and towels, but everything has been great otherwise!

Our whole group (ages 5-61) enjoyed being at BBI Lake Effect Lodge. Beautiful, spacious, log home in a stunning location. The kids enjoyed playing in the sand and water along the sand bar. Great fishing off the dock. Nice lakeside fire pit and plenty of seating available. 100% recommend.

I stayed at this property with my almost 2 year old daughter, teenage stepsons, husband, sister-in-law and mother-in-law. The property was beautiful! We loved that the water was mostly shallow so we didn't have to worry too much about our 2 year old getting into water over her head. BBI is a really fun island to explore. The highlight for the boys was the ATV rental day-- Robert provided contact information for ATV rentals and some other activities, which was a really nice touch. We can't wait to come back!

The Lodge was a terrific place for a long family weekend. We found the property to be very roomy for 3 couples plus a dog. The front porch facing Lake Huron - with a porch swing, chairs, and picnic table - was one of our favorite spots. We found the Gas Grill clean and ready to go and used several times during our stay. The firepit came with a stack of dry wood which we really appreciated! We brought our kayaks and were very happy to launch from the beach for an easy paddle. This was the first time to BBI for most of us (my daughter had been once before), and we loved the slower, quieter pace of the Island. The Lodge was a great accommodation for our time there.

This was our 6th girls only island getaway and it was perfect. Mr. Cochran has everything you could need in the kitchen, bedroom, cleaning supplies, games, working wifi…..
It was so well equipped that I took notes as host for our own rental.
The 6 of us highly recommend this cottage.

We had an amazing time at this cozy log house on Lake Huron! From the moment we walked in, we felt very comfortable and relaxed. The house was perfect for our family, and we loved every minute of our stay.
We spent our days paddle boating on the lake, exploring the island, and just soaking in the beautiful surroundings. One of the highlights was celebrating my birthday under the strawberry moon—so cool! The kids had a blast filming their own movie, and we all enjoyed hanging out around the campfire and playing card games together.
This place has a unique lakefront location and was the perfect getaway from the everyday busy life. Falling asleep to the sound of waves and waking up to the birds was just what we needed. We left feeling totally refreshed and with so many great memories. We can’t wait to come back!

This cabin was everything our family wanted and more! We had 5 adults, 1 teenager, and 3 kiddos ages 9 and 11 and all of us loved it! There was fishing, bird watching, nightly campfires, yard games, etc. There was plenty of room for all of us to sleep and be comfortable. We arrived on the island early and the property owner was very flexible with letting us drop some items off. Would stay there again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend to anyone!

Picture of surroundings and outside of lodge seemed accurate. I would highly recommend updating the bedding of the rooms. The main house is definitely more of a hunting lodge. Host was available if needed.

Beautiful, secluded one of a kind cabin that was clean, fresh smelling and roomy. Great small mouth bass fishing right off the dock. Local host very informative and responsive to questions and requests. Large yard for family games and wonderful covered front porch with swing to gather, view lake and watch the freighters go through The Straights.

We were impressed how the owners thought of every detail someone would need at a cabin stay on an island! They supplied more than enough towels and bathroom supplies, more than enough lawn chairs, bonfire wood and games, more than enough kitchen supplies including spices we forgot for our steak on the grill, more than enough bedding supplies, laundry and cleaning supplies if we needed it. It was a carefree stay with the best view, warm porch, and convenient location from the ferry and restaurant/bar. Thank you for everything!

This is a beautiful property that worked just great for my family of five. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking. The house is clean and comfortable. It's great for swimming and the outdoor fire pit was a perfect place to watch the sunset. The only suggestion is to clear up that when it says 5 bedrooms, it is referring to a very small out building that has two bedrooms. I can't imagine they would be very comfortable if the weather was either too hot or cold. We only used the main house and that was very, very nice!

Our stay at The Lake Effect Lodge was fabulous. The lodge was warm and inviting upon entering. The 4 teens loved having their own space in the bunk house, too. It was clean and spacious even when all 10 of us at the same time were gathered in it. Plenty of room for eating, playing cards, doing a puzzle or just relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked and roomy. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathrooms were very nice, too. The porch swing was a great place to “watch it all go by.” Beautiful view; Ducks, swans and eagles. Got to watch not only ships but the sailboats in the Port Huron to Mackinaw race. The kids loved fishing off the dock. We all went swimming off the sand bar and were able to dock our 19’ boat out front. In the early evening, we saw deer walking along the top of the sand bar out to the little island out front. We got to visit our relatives at their place on the western end of BBI and enjoyed The Outpost store, the little gift place just past the store, and of course, The Tavern, as well as the ferry ride over and back. So many nice people! Robert was an excellent host. Always friendly and concerned that everything was going well. Hoping to go again to the BBI Lake Effect Lodge. It’s a jewel!

Bois Blanc Island is Beautiful. We enjoyed the nature. Lots of Monarch Butterflies right off the front porch. The night sky with the awesome stars and Northern Lights.
Our accommodations were a life size Lincoln Log Cabin with a full front porch and swing. The Lake Effect Resort cabin was clean and welcoming. The atmosphere was just what we were looking for- peaceful and calm. Robert, the property owner, was available and responsive.
Our group included adults and teenage boys. Lake Effect Resort offered activities for all- rock skipping in the water, checkers and other board games, bonfires, exploring the island with nice views, etc. We enjoyed the friendly staff at the BBI Tavern and Ferry.
Our next BBI trip, we plan to stay longer. We will bring our water shoes. Paddle boards or kayaks, consider renting ATV’s, possible boating, fishing, etc. Excited already!
The only negative was the pesty biting flies

This was my fourth time on the Island and this year I wanted to share the island with my family. The cabin we stayed at had almost everything you could even think of needing. People had even left some food in the kitchen in case you forgot something. We left some behind too for the next group! The rooms are spacious and some even include air mattresses which really came in handy for my 72 year old mother. She isn't used to sleeping in the same bed as my father because he generates too much heat for her (lol) so she really enjoyed the comfortable air mattress that was in the closet. The tiny house outside is perfect for those pesky teenagers as we had 3 that we were quite glad to get away from in all their angst.
The beauty of the nature in this space is amazing. Our kids caught snakes at the docking area (just water snakes none poisonous). Its also very safe for little kids as the sand bar surrounding it keeps the little cove pretty shallow. The currents aren't strong inside the cove even when they are strong beyond the sand bar. We loved watching the deer cross the water to the little thicket on the sand bar each night for safety. The fire pit was beautiful and the stars at night are mesmerizing.
All in all everything was absolutely great! If I had to add a couple Cons to be honest I would say the mattresses definitely need a update for comfort! Also the black flies are horrendous but there isn't really much the owner of this property can do about nature. :) ty

Nice large log house steps from Lake Huron. We had plenty of space inside and outside. It was pretty warm upstairs, even with the blinds closed and fans on. Not unexpected, but if you sleep hot like I do, maybe bring extra fans.
The water is fairly shallow in front of the house with a really big sandbar that you can walk/swim out to. The dock is a great feature...my cousins were able to drive their boat over from Cheboygan and moor it at the house so we could go boating. We went tubing on the north shore, buzzed between Mackinaw and Round Islands, and then floated under the Mackinaw Bridge for a bit.
There are water snakes around the dock, so keep your eyes to the ground when walking around the dock or swimming near shore.
Being so close to the water meant a lot of spiders, biting flies and mosquitos while on the porch. Would have been nice if there was a screen door on the porch entrance...the door opens inward and at night a ton of midges and mosquitos got inside every time the door opened. At night we would go out the side door and walk around to the porch to avoid the bugs getting in. The view from the porch is incredible and we spent a lot of time out there. We watched swans, loons, hummingbirds and freighters every day.
The bunk house was nice and the teenagers enjoyed sleeping out there. Ceilings are a bit low so a little awkward if you're tall.
The property location is great if you like the east end of BBI. Close to the municipal dock and tavern. Not far to Snow Beach. Close to Fire Tower road which can take you to Twin Lakes or Thompson Lake, or the north shore.
My family has been going to BBI since the 50's and some still have property there.
This was my first trip back since 2005 and it was everything I wanted it to be. Our group enjoyed staying here and would like to come back next year.
