"It was a pleasure getting to Alex's casa. First of all, once we booked the room he immediately contacted us to make sure we understand how and when to arrive. Alex was kind and helpful, guiding us how to best manage ourselves, as we didn't plan properly and didn't have cash with us, he also helped us acquire the necessary amount in Cuban Pesos so we can enjoy our stay. Furthermore, we asked to leave our luggage and Alex was happy to assist and even offer to leave us the room if no one will book it. Beside the pleasure of having such a wonderful host, the house itself is magnificently beautiful - an old colonial house in the beautiful and lively Vedado, a few steps from the John Lennon park and the Submarino Amerillo pub. It's within a walking distance from Plaza la Revulucion, many restaurants and La Rampa. If you're going to Havana, do yourselves a favor and stay at Alex's in Villa Carmita. It's the best option!"

"Sublimely extravagant boutique hotel. We have stayed in many luxury hotels and few boutique hotels and El Candil is by far the most amazing experience (yes it's not a stay it's an experience) we have ever had the pleasure of. The staff are all so friendly and welcoming and there is nothing they won't do for you. Arranging tours, transfers and great advice. Attention to detail is in every aspect of your experience. We were treated to a roof top terrace with only one other guest. A barman/server and two chefs! We felt like Royalty. Fresh cocktails made to order and beautiful food made fresh to order whilst soaking up the relaxing atmosphere of the private (for guest) roof terrace. The room is beautifully decorated,again with attention to detail in everything. The bed, bedding and pillow are sumptuous. We can't recommend El Candil enough our only regret was not booking this hotel for our entire stay in Havana. We will definitely be back and cannot recommend the hotel and it's staff enough. "

"Beautiful property and very affordable. Rooms are gorgeous and very tidy, and we had a great sleep here for our last night in Cuba. Pretty close to the revolution plaza and some good restaurants. Staff were helpful in arranging transport. Definitely consider staying here if you are visiting Havana Vedado."
