Sonning Eye
Sonning Eye
A view to the east of Caversham from Playhatch The view from Foxhill Lane. The crop is oil-seed rape. The first flowers are just starting to show. We are looking down on the Henley Road at its junction with Caversham Park Road with meadows and a former gravel pit on the floodplain beyond.
Former gravel pit, Sonning. The gravel pits occupy a large swath of the flood plain between Sonning Eye and Caversham. They are now used for watersports and fishing and attract a lot of wildfowl. The building to the right is a new rowing centre. The gasworks is in the east end of Reading, a couple of miles away. For the same view in winter see 657828.
The B478, Sonning Eye. Some minor flooding was affecting the road at various points as it crosses the floodplain between Sonning and Playhatch. Most traffic went through at a more sedate pace 509749.
