Villa on the island of Oleron, near the beach, sleeps 8, 4 bedrooms

Great location
"Great location for family to unwind together with short walk to the beach and wooded area which was great for dog walks.
Property was a good size for 8 adults and 2 dogs. Could do with a bit of TLC, few items were broken or unserviceable, ie sunlounges, pool table (warped), radiator not working.
Lighting was hard to read by, but cosy.
Not as clean as we would expect, Sheets had a stain on one bed and parts of the garden required attention.
A warning about mosquitos would be useful, not sure if this was just the time of year we went.
Pool was a great bonus, heated but only to 26 degrees and not adjustable, which would be ok at the height of summer but not all year round.
Host was accessible via message through VRBO and was able to instruct how to turn the heating on when we had a few chilly nights.
Would be useful to provide a folder of information about the property and surrounding areas. Places to visit and places to eat, Police, Pharmacy, Town hall etc.
Overall we had a lovely family holiday and would return due to the location."

ILE D OLERON - WOODEN GREEN BEACH

Very disappointing
"Although situated in a great location, this property was disappointing from the start. We had to wait to be checked in, the house hadn’t been opened up or aired, the sheets were old and smelt damp, the garden was neglected and sad, many of the furniture items and fittings were old and broken. Worst of all, although the house was advertised for 8 people, there was only space for 5 since the 2 single beds were in fact one small bed and the sofa bed was unusable. The number of chairs inside and out were not sufficient for the number of guests. The house was supposed to have a barbecue but we would have had to assemble this ourselves. Other small items like a hairdryer were advertised but not in fact available.
One toilet was blocked and the cistern on the other one did not fill properly. The blocked toilet was eventually repaired but at first the owner was reluctant to call out a plumber. The owner said I could buy new sheets and she would reimburse me but when it came to it, she would only refund a small part of what I spent. I also had to buy a blow up mattress myself.
I speak French and know the island but this situation would have been even more stressful for tourists who did not speak the language especially as there was no information about the house or area available at the property. Be aware that VRBO can not help you if you have a problem."
