Balut is a 14 to 21-day old fertilized duck egg depending on how developed one wants the duck embryo is. Balut is a common street food that has its origins in China. Pateros is the balut-capital of the Philippines. Balut is boiled and then eaten with salt or some spiced vinegar. The way to eat balut: crack the shell, peel it bit by bit, slurp the soup (cooked amniotic fluid of the chick) before eating the egg and embryo. It is a favorite street food in the Philippines as it is cheap and nutritious. Another version for the less squimish is Penoy. It is an unfertized duck egg that is boiled. Depending on one's preference, it is just egg boiled with the consistency from runny to hard boiled - definitely no duck embryo on this one. "The size of the rooms and the amenities are excellent. Nice pool and restaurant. Convenient location and hotel shuttle to Mall of Asia. But the outstanding service of the staff, including the attendants, housekeeping, and restaurant staff, set the Heritage apart from other hotels. If you are visiting from abroad, you will especially appreciate help with baggage and arranging transportation."
