"Quinta de Vilar is what its title suggests: a former vineyard. What makes this property such a gem is: the glorious mature garden, surrounded by the extensive grounds of the former vineyard; the fabulous 20m x 10m pool, with an additional, ice-cold, smaller pool, hidden in the woodland; two splendid dogs; and Carmen, the charming and helpful host.We spent a relaxing two weeks here, during the June 2025 heatwave, keeping cool in the pools, which are for guests sole use, and the air conditioned house.Qunita de Vilar is ideally located, 30 minutes’ drive from Porto Airport. There are nearby train stations, with free parking, for trains into the centre of Porto, where driving is to be avoided. There is also easy access to the wonderful Douro valley, with its myriad wine and port producers.Not to be missed is Casa Da Viuva wine bar and restaurant, which is 5 minutes’ drive: they have a fantastic selection of quality wines and food, with friendly and welcoming staff.Carmen was the perfect host, leaving us to do our own thing, but always available to help, if needed.Everything was immaculate clean and well looked after.Thank you very much"

"Great for a short term stay. Beautiful building in a lovely historic town (small cafes, restaurants, historic sights, etc.). Offsite owners who were responsive and provided clear guidelines on how to access the property."

"Hotel needs a serious upgrade / revamp, walls dirty and carpets worn and dirty. Couch in room dirty; horrible mattresses and pillows; hair in beds; carpet stained, worn and dirty; walls marked and scuffed; kitchenette terrible - taps and sink dirty, extractor oily and smelly. Not to mention the TV... Breakfast limited and selected cappuccino from coffee machine and got a hot chocolate... 🙈 Not at all aligned to the pictures and reviews "

"I expected more to be honest especially for the prices. Ive used the spa facility before and that is brilliant but this was the first time staying. Lobby looks great but rooms need renovating. There was also a christmas party on one of the nights so music was quite loud and could be heard in the room thankfully it wasn't on till very late but still not what you expect when staying at a soundproof hotel. The spa hours are also restricted some days so we were unable to use the facilities during our stay. Other hotels have extended hours for guests and earlier opening times. "

"Property was well set out and a good size, two bedrooms plus lounge and kitchen. Owner was friendly, met us there at the agreed time for handover. Village is very quiet, with a well stocked shop two minutes walk away. Motorway is an easy drive away."
