"We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful private oceanfront home. Sunrises were beautiful! It is a bit north of Hilo so it was at least a 20 minute drive if we chose to go out to eat. Being on the “wet” side of the island, we experienced intermittent rain almost every day, which gave us lush tropical views and the rain did not prevent us from getting out and experiencing nature everyday. The location was ideal for us otherwise, as we traveled all over the island and didn’t intend to just hang out in Hilo. Having the rooms on either side of the home was ideal for us. Each couple had their own space away from each other, as well as their own outside area. One thing the others in our group found challenging was that the counters are set higher than normal counter height. Even though there is no air conditioning we found the air flow with the breeze off the ocean and windows open worked great for cooling the place down at night when we got back from exploring."

"Mahana House was a lovely, well-appointed lodging. The room was very spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed the comfy robes, lanai for morning coffee and evening cocktails, and the yummy fruit we picked on the farm. The shared kitchen and laundry had everything we might have overlooked. We even enjoyed fresh homemade banana bread from the housekeeper, Val. We grabbed a cooler and beach towels for day trips. We were able to do laundry before leaving. The nearest restaurants were back in Hilo, but the drive was easy and scenic. If you are looking for a relaxing, comfortable place to stay, then Mahana House will be perfect for you. "

"A very convenient location for staying in Waimea-- there are two supermarkets and one health store across near by. Several restaurants/coffee shops within a mile and a lovely 1 mile (2 mile round trip) nature path across the street. It is a bit of a drive to Kona or Hilo but still accessible. Email the hotel with your information (email address) even if you intend to check in before 4 PM (flight delays etc) so they can email you with how to check in after hours. Staff were friendly in person and on the phone. In addition to a coffee maker, my standard room had a mini fridge which allowed me to store snacks/produce w/o fear of spoilage or pests."

"This is a great place to stay to get away from it all! Close enough to Hilo to get back into the all of you want. We also wound up driving north around the island to the west side a bit more than towards Hilo. Just sitting on the porch and looking out at the sky & ocean was so peaceful. Wish we had better weather. Got 1.5 sunrises and one night starry sky out of 7 nights but, that was only the fault of Mother Nature. Still so peaceful in the rain. The cottage itself is fine for two people, tho I can’t imagine a third person being comfortable. The only thing I did not know about before booking from reading reviews, was that the ginger cottage was right next to the main house. Not sharing a wall, but a car port. They have tried to do a good job separating it and noise was only an issue a few times, we did not even bring it up since it was my fault for possibly not asking that question before booking. As I saw nothing about it being so close to the main house in reviews. And many other places we looked at it was a very obvious. The pineapple cottage is a bit more on its own. I would probably book that one next time. Great hosts! Thank you again."

It was easy to book, the owners were great to deal with, they responded to every question quickly, the property was beautiful, the pool was important to us and did not disappoint, the birds in the morning and the frogs at night were fantastic to listen to, and the house fit all of us (7) comfortably. "Kim’s Cottage and Jim’s welcome were both awesome, two of us stayed for three nights and it was exactly as described and expected. The private patio was wonderful and it made for easy living. We did have some unwelcome encounters with mosquitos, but that was expected due to the location of the property and the season. We normally stay in Hawi and the location was incredibly convenient for us to explore the northeastern side of the island. Once welcomed by Jim, where he gave us an overview of the cottage and the property, we were afforded incredible privacy throughout our stay. It was just perfect, exactly what we needed :)"
