Luxury 4BR Estate with Ocean Views, Pool, Slide & Gourmet Kitchen: Waipio Heaven
10/10 Excellent
"Incredible views! Seeing it in person is just amazing. We had a group of 4 adults and 3 kids that stayed here and we all fit comfortably. Clean, spacious and a great, responsive host. The pool was also amazing! It was like finding a swimming hole in the middle of a rainforest and the slide was a hit for the kids. The outdoor shower in the master suite was one of my favorite parts of the house. I didn’t think I would like it but it was so relaxing out there, especially at night with the moon peeking through the trees. If you have younger kids, here are a few things to be aware of: the main house has the master bedroom and the “secret room”. We didn’t feel the secret room was a safe option for our youngest (steep stairs, mezzanine style loft with pony walls and very high bed). The other 3 bedrooms are accessed by walking outside across the patio. Great rooms over there! But if you’re wanting to stay in the master and kids to stay in other rooms, you’ll be separated. So keep that in mind when considering bedroom set up with younger kids. Other things to note: the little town of Honoka’a is cute but half the stores/restaurants were closed even during their “open” hours. You need to drive quite a bit to get to other things not right there in that very small town. You also need to drive to get to most beaches. The black sand beach that is right there was closed when we went unfortunately. Let’s be honest though, we didn’t want to leave this house very much anyways!!"
Serene, Restored House from Sugar Days with Sweeping Ocean Views
10/10 Excellent
"We have stayed in several rentals, and this one tops the list!!! The view from the property is breathtaking. Walking through the orchard picking and eating fresh fruit was such a unique and wonderful experience! Our kids loved all the little geckos running around, they had names and there were favorites before we left. The beds were comfortable, the hot tub was a nice place to relax after a long day. Having access to a washer and dryer is a must after a day at the beach! Honokoa’a is a conveniently close little town (we strongly recommend lunch at Andrade’s). The property caretakers, Marcus and Shigeko, were wonderful and made the experience extra special for us. We would definitely stay here again if we came back to the Big Island!"
"Best location on the island, fully stocked kitchen, extremely gracious and helpful live-in property manager, and very private- but the best part was the porch and outdoor shower! It would be hard to find a better outdoor shower location on this planet…we all LOVED our stay here!"
Inspired 1-BR, Magic Gardens, Stream and Waterfall
10/10 Excellent
"What a wonderful place! Great communication with the friendly host, Darin. The grounds are spectacular, with tropical plants and a beautiful waterfall. Very quiet, and very near the Waipi'o overlook. Apartment is very clean and nicely furnished. Loved the eclectic decor! Kitchen is great, with everything you need to cook in. (You're a bit far from town, so restaurants may not be an option, and everything closes early in that part of Hawaii!). But if you want a secluded, serene island experience, this place is it!It IS a 2nd floor apartment, so not an option if you have mobility issues, but worked great for us.Definitely one of our favorite stays on the islands. Would definitely stay here again if we are back on the big island!Mahalo!"
