"Arbeit macht frei" is a German phrase meaning "work makes (you) free."

This was the gate at the entry of the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp through which thousands of people of many races were marched by the Nazis to their death. I left through these gates shocked at the pure evil of what I learnt human beings were capable of.

The following excerpt from the camp commandant at his trial and is a graphical example.

- Kaindl: Until mid of 1943, prisoners were killed by shooting or hanging. For the mass exterminations, we used a special room in the infirmary. There was a height gauge and a table with an eye scope. There were also some SS wearing doctor uniforms. There was a hole at the back of the height gauge. While a SS was measuring the height of a prisoner, another one placed his gun in the hole and killed him by shooting in his neck. Behind the height gauge there was another room where we played music in order to cover the noise of the shooting.

"Pros: Das große Bett im Schlafzimmer. Cons: Also wir fanden es echt unpassend, dass man was gebucht hat und ein anderes Zimmer bekommen hat. Wir sollten ein Etagenbett bekommen und ein Doppelbett. Wir waren zu viert mit Hund. Leider nicht so gewesen. Wir Eltern mussten auf einer kleinen harten Couch schlafen. Das Zimmer hat sich unendlich aufgeheizt. Das war einfach nur zu heiß. Laut waren die Nachbarn leider abends auch."

"Estuvimos muy cómodos y tranquilos. El espacio es amplio y estaba limpio. Aparte tiene cocina para poder tomar café o comer de take away. No se puede cocinar. Lo único malo que podría decir, es que el baño estaba fuera de la habitación pero era solo para nosotros. Y el internet no nos funcionó en toda la estancia. "Excellent location for this superb hotel, friendly service from all staff, comfortable rooms with excellent amenities (the Nespresso coffee machine and Bose Wave Soundtouch are excellent items to have in the room). I don't know if all rooms have these but the bathroom had a full bath, separate rainfall shower and twin sinks. The air conditioning worked well, which was apprecaited in the 28C heat and humidity during our trip."

"Great size room, really comfortable bed, and the facilities were amazing quality. I went for the value room expecting a small room. It was very spacious, more than enough room for two people. We even had a view of the TV tower from our window. Easy check in via the app and room key via app was also handy, no having to go get a new one if it stops working."
