Pond in the Pit This small lake is in the northeast corner of Grays Thurrock Chalk Pit (now renamed Grays Gorge). It is an SSSI see http://www.english-nature.org.uk/citation/citation_photo/1003111.pdf and is part of the Chafford Gorges Nature Reserve http://www.essexwt.org.uk/visitor_centres__nature_reserves/chafford_gorges/ owned by Essex Wild Life Trust.
