Alte Druckerei - "Cicero" Vacation Apartment
Cicero (15th century) was a typeface designer. Cicero is a classic type size in lead and wood typesetting. Thus, a “Cicero” describes the average type size. Until the end of commercial book printing at the end of the 20th century, the unit of measurement “Cicero” was a universally accepted typesetting standard.

Old Printing House
Even though the machines no longer stand in the former Otto Freund printing house at Poststraße 3, this place remains a home for the fine art of the printing craft. These qualities have endured beyond the printing business itself and are reflected in the apartments at the Alte Druckerei. We chose the names of the apartments with the printing trade in mind.

We, sisters Othild Hesse and Claudia Heise, decided to breathe new life into our childhood home after the death of our parents and the closure of the Otto Freund printing shop, which had been in operation for 145 years. We quickly settled on a name for the new residential and commercial building: Alte Druckerei.

At the end of October 2019, demolition of the aging building began, which brought back many memories of our childhood. Step by step, the new residential and commercial building named “Alte Druckerei” took shape.

Our new vacation apartments, built with an eye for detail, are centrally located on the island with a view of the pedestrian zone and the silhouette of Norderney. The building features triple-pane windows, so you can enjoy your vacation in peace. The elevator takes you comfortably to the upper floors.

Restaurants, cafes, and shopping are right at your doorstep. The spa grounds, the spa theater, and the Conversationshaus with its diverse cultural offerings, as well as the thalasso spa, West Beach, and the beach promenade, are all just a few minutes away. Want to explore the eastern part of the island by e-bike? Bicycle rentals are located in the immediate vicinity. Or start a jogging or walking route right outside the front door.
