I booked this hotel through Expedia, where the listing showed a $10 nightly pet fee and a $50 pet deposit. Based on standard definitions, a deposit is typically refundable if there is no damage.
At check-in, I was told that the information on Expedia is “wrong” and that the $50 is actually a non-refundable pet cleaning fee. When I tried to clarify the discrepancy, the front desk staff spoke over me in a condescending tone and repeatedly blamed Expedia instead of addressing the issue.
The situation escalated when the general manager came out and lectured me for several minutes, implying it was my fault for relying on the information provided in the listing. A second staff member joined in and told me to contact Expedia myself regarding the fee.
The most concerning part was that I was threatened with being removed from the premises simply for trying to discuss the policy. This involved multiple staff members, including the general manager, and felt both unprofessional and intimidating.
Staff acknowledged that this same issue has happened many times before. However, instead of correcting the listing or clearly communicating their policy, they chose to blame the customer and handle the situation poorly.
Due to this experience, I chose not to stay. Expedia ultimately provided a refund, but the interaction at the hotel was unacceptable.
