Stay Inn a Volcano on a Volcano
Don't let your adventure stop at the national park! Come experience living in a luxurious volcano dome home where you will live in synergy with the natural exquisite surroundings. The cinder we used to build the whole dome comes from the local query produced from big island's natural volcanic features. We promise you'll lava it!

Welcome to Inn a Volcano!
Enter through the archway and be transported into a Volcano. With 25+ feet high ceilings and a skylight at the cherry top, the sunlight shines onto floor that is... lava. Looking hot, right? No worries because the 16 inch thick cindercrete walls keep things cool and regulated. And guess what? The dome doubles as a sound studio. Stand in the middle of the dome and hear the deep echo created by the cindercone shaped room. Cue the music!
Waking up from snuggling the softest sheets in the cozy circle bed, you can brew your morning coffee or pick some hibiscus from the garden and make fresh tea. The bedroom was designed with relaxation and comfort in mind. This is a perfect place to unwind after a long day. Lava lamp niches set the mood at night and the coqui frogs will sing you to sleep as you stargaze through the skylight.
The bathroom is a blissful calm contrast from the firey red walls and lava floor in the main room. Open the circle window and breath the fresh rainforest air above the custom made hand polished limestone bathtub. Light a candle and take a bath or use the rainfall shower head. Admire the jungle flora just outside of the bathroom window, full of vibrant colors and life. Champagne is available on request.
This property is fully off-the-grid with the electricity being powered by the sun and the rainwater being harvested from the house next door. We love to let people experience a luxury version of off-grid life, flushing toilet included.
Everything in this volcano is custom-made. We spent the better part of 8 months trying to create the best luxury eco experience possible for all guests. We hope that you see the beauty in each detail we thought of just for you.
Location and Amenities:
Strategically located-
•19 miles (25 minutes) from Hilo
•23 miles (35 minutes) from Pahoa
•12 miles (15 minutes) from Keaau
•10 minutes from Volcano Town
A high clearance vehicle (4x4 not needed) is an ideal choice when staying here as the last 500 feet of the drive is off-road and quite rocky. We recommend an SUV. You will transverse your private entrance passing the Cassandra's (the host's) tiny house. When you arrive you will be greeted by the serene beauty of the jungle. While is isn't 100% private as the host lives next door, we can still promise a peaceful escape from the everyday world. We recommend stopping for snacks in Hilo or Keaau on the way up as those towns have more options than the sleepy Volcano Village.
Comprehensive List of Amenities and Features:
• Circle Window Shower/Bath
• High Speed WiFi (newly added)
• Dehumidifier and Fan
• FlushingToilet
• Heart Marble Sink
• Organic Shampoo/Conditioner
• Organic Hand Soap
• Towels
• Epsom Salts and Bubble Bath
• Ample Parking
• Circle Bed
• Clean Linens
• Magazines/ guide books
• Ear Plugs
• Side Tables
• Mini Fridge
• Kitchen Sink
• Extra Blankets
• Bug Spray
• Lanai
• Games
• Outlets (3-prong and USB)
• Single burner butane stove top. It's not a full kitchen. It's best to reheat food and make a small breakfast.
Important Considerations Before Booking:
As luxurious and adventurous as Inn a Volcano is, staying in an off-grid volcano dome home in the Hawaiian jungle comes with expected 'challenges.' My goal is to give you an experience that combines Tarzan's hideout with a 5-star experience so lets get you prepped!
1. Water Source
•The tap water comes from rain catchment. It is not potable (not for drinking.) We will provide drinking water.
2. Electricity
•We're solar-powered, so please conserve energy. High voltage items like hair dryers or irons are not provided. If you bring these and use them there is a chance that the power will shut off. Please shut off lights when you leave. The windows and a skylight allows ample natural light during the day.
