- Whilst washing up and stripping the beds at check out would be appreciated, it is by no means expected

About the area

Monterosso, known for its lemon trees, white wine and anchovies, is delightful. It is split in two: the old and the new. The old town is home to the ruins of a medieval castle and San Francesco church, which houses a very special painting that is said to be painted by Van Dyck. This is the most visited and accessible village by car in the area. The new Monterosso, also known as Fegina, extends along the coastline. It is here that you will find the best beach in Monterosso (indeed, the best beach in the Cinque Terre), the railway station, and one of the two car parks for visitors.

The view from Punta Mesco is breathtaking. This spot is just half an hour from Monterosso, and if you love hiking, we`d absolutely recommend this trail.



Getting around

The villa is located just a few minutes from the train station and a few meters from the sea promenade.

- By train – you get off on the Monterosso al Mare railway station, turn right and walk for about 100m.;

- By car – it is the most accessible village by car of all Cinque Terre villages. You can reach the town with highway A12 and take the exit to Carrodano/Levanto. Then you follow the signs to Levanto. After you have reached Levanto you have to follow the road SP 43 to Cinque Terre.

- By ferry – the harbour of Monterosso is the biggest of all Cinque Terre

- The property is located a 1-hour and a half drive from the Pisa and Genoa airports.

Overall very good - Some small improvements could go a long way.

We were generally happy with this stay! The space and location were great. This property does not have AC which I am used to, but I would say that the room with two beds NEEDS blackout curtains. It was quite hot and very difficult for the room to cool down even as the heat of the day was over. It was also very bright in the morning. I would also say that without AC working fans are needed, and the fans were in poor quality. For reference our stay was in the middle of July so that is likely as hot as it gets!

I will most likely stay away from corporate owned properties in the future. They have no skin in the game and you are just a number. The place was decorated like a college dorm with mismatched items like cats and weird paintings. It was very hot like low 90s (no ac) and the fan they provided squealed all night. The apartment seemed clean but there were ants all over the kitchen and bathroom and we brought in zero food. They state you have to do all these things (a list of nickle and dimed items) or you'll be fined it you don't but then when I asked where to put the laundry since the instructions stated we had to strip beds and place them in bags that were provided the girl on the phone said that wasn't the case. Mixed messages all the way around. The beds are horrible. You can feel every spring in them. Very uncomforable. The key also broke off into the lock. Poor design and flimsy. They did send out a handy man who was able to get it out in about an hour and a half. He was very nice and helpful. Overall the apartment is ok, not decent not great.

Let's start with the great - Monterosso Al Mare is a beautiful apartment with an incredible view very close to the beach. The apartment is light, bright, clean and neat and fit our family of four perfectly. The view is even better than the picture and the patio/balcony is plenty big to sit and enjoy the view. Now the not so great. The apartment is HOT (yes, it is June and yes it is hot outside so I expected it) and with the windows/door open there is a good breeze but the two tiny fans were not adequate enough to keep the air moving at night once you closed the front door. Check in - had a few questions about how/when to check in and final balance. Once we got a response (which took far too long with different people from the management group responding with different info) check in was fine. And a final note on the stairs - as I mentioned the view was amazing but it comes at a price - the 121 steps are outside, uncovered and in places, very uneven. It was a long, and curvy walk up (which was okay for our family) but if I had very young children or older folks with me this would be a no go. Overall, if you want a beautiful view in a nice apartment (and don't mind the stair climb and some heat in the summer) this is a great place for you.

Beach Holiday

Beautiful view with excellent evening sun. It was nice staying in New Town Monterosso with the Old Town and ferries to the other Cinque Terre towns just a short walk away. We went for the beach scene and sun and were not disappointed. Out of our ten days at the apartment, we spent at least a portion of each day at the beach bar Stella Marina, which is just across the street. The apartment manager Roberto, was very helpful in guiding us to the property, which was a bit difficult for us to find. One bit of advice, pack light because it is a bona fide "hump" up those 120+ steps. Monterosso was our last stop after five weeks in Tuscany, and we had three 50 lb. pieces of luggage. Do not make that mistake! Overall, great location and would not hesitate to recommend it. David & Teri
