The Castle of Montecchio Vesponi is a walled, castle with turrets and battlements, which occupies the top of a hill (Montecchio), overlooking the Val di Chiana, named and drawn on a well-documented survey map by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503.

Many cultural events have taken place within its walls, including art exhibitions (the last being one of works of Manzù), concerts, folklore festivals, re- enactments and events in the local dialect. Famous visitors to the Castle have included the late Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother (of England) who came to learn Documentary Moviesmore about the castle and the area and owned in 1384 by another Englishman, Sir John Hawkwood (known in Italian as Giovanni Acuto). Hawkwood appears in the world famous fresco by Paolo Uccello in the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, The Duomo of Florence.

"Travelled to this area many times before. Familiar with properties in the area, many with gravel drives. Add made no mention of the road condition of the driveway. Four adults in a small rental car - took three attempts to get up the initial part of the driveway, each time having to precariously reverse back out. "A Truly Enchanting Stay at Il Borro I recently spent three unforgettable days at Il Borro, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside. The property is immaculately maintained and offers a perfect balance of luxury and authenticity. We stayed in a spacious villa that offered both comfort and charm—an ideal setting for relaxation. The staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming, always going the extra mile to ensure our stay was perfect. One of the highlights was the food. The pizza was some of the best we've ever had, and the overall dining experience was fantastic, especially when paired with Il Borro’s impressive selection of wines. "Incredible stay at this property. The location is amazing close to Multepulteno as well. We did a drive to sienna. we loved the pools. The staff were incredible. The room was clean and spacious. The AC was cold. The food was delicious. The breakfast was amazing the scenery and property itself were phenomenal. "
