New years eve stay.
This was a one night stay when going to a new years eve party so did not try the food as we did not get back to the hotel until early morning so missed breakfast. Rooms old but spotless. Reception verry helpful.

It was booked due to free parking on a spur of the moment day away.
A VERY reasonable price for a basic room and facilities. We had a breakfast which was very nice served fresh by a friendly staff, who couldn't do enough for us. Its certainly not the Ritz, but if you like a clean room, a lovely breakfast with a friendly staff, then look no further.

The Rivetside Hotel is quite run down, scruffy and dirty in some areas. The corridor windows and silks were full of cobwebs and dead flies/midges. Worn stair carpets. The rooms were clean but very basic and there was mould in the bottom of our shower. The whole place could do with a re-vamp. The breakfast however, was great, fresh and tasty. So no complaints there and location is good except all rooms face quite a busy road so you do get traffic noise at night. Overall I would give it a 4/10 accommodation and 7/10 breakfast
The room was a good size for a single. Tea coffee etc and biscuits don't get that in many places now. Comfortable bed. Good TV internet.

The hotel staff were friendly and mostly very helpful. Inside the hotel is very tired looking, especially the carpets on the stairs up to the rooms and on the landing and in my bedroom. They all looked dirty and like they needed a good hoover and a thorough clean with carpet shampoo. Room and bed linen were generally clean. Poached egg breakfast was very greasy on first morning (too much butter). Couldn't face the thought of a full or even partial English on the second day... The upside is that it's on the edge of the town centre, only a couple of minutes to the main street, has sufficient private parking and the deal for the room was very good.
The worst hotel room (out of many) I have ever stayed in, apart from the motel room that had dog fleas.
Supposed to be a twin bedded room but one of the beds was only 80cm wide (which is not a twin size bed). The mattress on the 90cm bed was awful.
Sheets were clean; the rest of the room and the en-suite were grimy and draped in cobwebs. The shower-head had something black on it which appeared to be mould. I cleaned it myself.
The room was cold. The radiator never came on, even though I requested it.
The room was insecure. It opened directly onto the car park and the outside security lights did not work. In the dark I used my phone torch to check the door number and insert the key. The outside door handle had come off. The only lock was a Yale type lock, which seemed insecure. The ensuite window had been left unlatched so anyone could open it and climb in from the outside.
Good points: Having survived the night, I was in a convenient location, and the breakfast was decent.
