We want to call out ‘Mikki’ who was super kind and helped us with any language barriers we had. The entire restaurant staff was amazing and we are grateful to meet the chef. "Koyasan was the highlight of our Japan experience. The place we got for overnight temple stay at Ekoin temple was beautiful. Dinner was large and amazing (I am not a vegetarian but the food was delicious). Our room was a junior suite with our own bath and garden. I would not have it any other way. I wish I stayed longer than one night. Remember that this is a stay at a temple. Although one gets very nice experience, I would urge any tourists to not treat this as some hotel. The people serving you are Buddhists monks or monks in training. As a Buddhist (from a different country), we would never have monks serving us food (other way around). I have seen people leave some not so kind comments and if that is something you are inclined to do, consider not doing temple stay and check yourself into an actual hotel."
