"This place is for the adventurer at heart. If you can’t handle cabin like conditions…interfacing with the wild & the noise displayed by the night critters & beautiful birds singing their hearts away early morning, this is not for you! We even had a gecko that would pop in to have breakfast with us…he loved jelly! The host & staff are very friendly & put out an organic spread for breakfast to start your day. It’s pretty remote out there, but there is an amazing place called the coffee shack a few miles away that has excellent lattes & an amazing menu. It’s very busy, but worth the wait. We rented a 4x4 jeep & went off roading & it was a magnificent experience. Made it out to the Green Beach which was absolutely worth the rough ride."

"The property is in a wonderful quiet neighborhood and only a short walk from the beach. It is well maintained and well furnished. The main things of note to keep you informed and so you can't say you didn't know is that the property is down a steep hill, so be prepared. Not a big deal as the whole neighborhood is this way. Also the property does not have air conditioning. It was warm during the day, but as you keep the windows open it cools down well with the breeze, so no problem at all. Also, the water catchment system was new for us, but did not pose any problem at all. The property is a slight ways away from the "town", maybe 30 minutes, so it isn't a quick drive to go pick up things, but just grab them on the way to the house from the airport and it is no big deal. Overall, I would love to stay at this property again as the pebble beach is extremely quiet and although it is different than a normal sandy beach, it did not bother me at all. Also, the abundant flowers and birds make it a very peaceful stay as you sit on the huge porch watching the sun go down."

" It's a beautiful & comfortable house-photos accurate. The drive down is a bit nerve racking if you're a flat lander, but it gets easier the more trips you take. There are many spices & condiments in kitchen. Stop first to see what you may need, then grab a cooler off the deck and head to Ocean view for groceries. Driving everywhere didn't seem too far-it is so scenic. We watched the sunset from the pool every night-glorious!"

"Beautiful sunsets, relaxing sounds of the ocean, cool breezes,….everything we look for when we want to escape. Awesome house with all the amenities you would want ! This is our third time renting from Carl and Deborah….we look forward to our next visit (hopefully during whale watching season)!"

"This house is exactly as described. Room for 8 (if 2 are thin and short or are children). The host is very communicative and helpful. The check in and check out process is very easy. There are games in the basement and the host has a whole shed of snorkels, fins, chairs, beach equipment, etc. Really great if you've come from far and obviously couldn't pack your own.Why this house might not be for you: it is rural. If you want to go to Kona it's 1 to 1 1/2 hours away. Volcanoes NPS is about 2 hours away. If you are looking for restaurants or activities, you will be doing a lot of driving. Except for a few beaches, most of them are a drive too because you're on a mountain...it's a slow, curvy ride everywhere.If you are a nervous driver or get carsick, this is not for you. The road is steeped and very curvy. My family doesn't get sick...until our last day. But it was fun to see the mongooses and wild pigs in the road. If you like long, hot showers, this is not for you. There is little water in this area...you can't drill a well into volcanic rock and there's no public water. So you are taking short showers as the host requests. Also, I don't think I ever had a HOT shower. Even if I insisted on taking a 2-minute shower before my kids, the water would get warm (I always describe it as "llama spit") but never hot. "

"This entire experience was nothing short of amazing. At first I was apprehensive to live completely off the grid but after staying here I would definitely do it again. When we first arrived the host met us, gave us an entire tour of his property, including his beautiful animals as well as explaining what it’s like to live off grid. Made us feel right at home as if we had been friends a long time. The home was cozy, it does get a little cold so be prepared. The grill and fire pit was a nice touch in the evening. We only stayed one night and wish we had stayed longer. "

"We had an incredible stay at the Beach Boys mansion. The endless ocean views and sense of peace made for an unforgettable experience. The home is beautifully maintained with thoughtfully chosen, island-inspired furnishings, a perfect layout, and plenty of supplies — from seating and lighting to a well-stocked kitchen. The pool area was a favorite, and every guest raved about the views and the super comfortable beds. The house is thoughtfully divided into separate residential areas, giving everyone a sense of privacy when needed.Communication with the hosts was exceptional — fast, clear, and super helpful from start to finish.Do note: sound carries more than you might expect in this quiet, secluded location. While we did our best to keep things low-key, the size of our group alone made it challenging at times. Guests should be very mindful of noise levels, even during normal conversations. To support future visitors, it might be helpful for the owners to consider installing a decibel monitor. We deeply appreciated the peaceful setting and wanted to do our part to preserve it.Although it’s a bit of a drive to town, that distance adds to the magic. It truly felt like we were alone on top of the world.Thank you for sharing such a special property with us!"
