I really enjoyed the design, the vibe, the motto of 1 Hotel NYC and looked forward to our stay at their South Beach location.. It’s clear they’ve made an effort to be forward-thinking in sustainability and that’s something our family deeply appreciates.
That said, I do want to share one major frustration that impacted our stay. Before booking, I called to confirm that my family would be able to use the locker room showers before our late flight onto the next leg of our trip. I was told on that call, again after making the reservation, and once more at check-in that it would be no problem and we were able to use all amenities and most importantly the locker room showers before our departure. We planned our day around that promise.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at the locker room, we were turned away. We were told the gym is a private facility not affiliated with the hotel, and that my son couldn’t enter, even with his father. It was an awkward and disappointing end to our stay, especially considering we were charged a resort fee for both rooms which included access to amenities we were denied.
This left us scrambling just before a long-haul flight, and it was a sharp contrast to the otherwise welcoming and progressive tone of the hotel. I hope the hotel will clarify these policies going forward as consistency and communication matter.
