"We had a wonderful week at the Quinta de Santiago country house. It is such a beautiful villa and grounds and is both modern and homely. Ricardo was super helpful, showing us the local area when we arrived and allowing us to get our bearings. He was full of suggestions for great days out as well. Really close by car to Penafiel, an easy walk to the train station which is 40 minutes to Porto and easy enough to explore the wider areas. Our daughter loved the pool and the privacy throughout was much appreciated. Would recommend to all."

"We arrived late at night due to flight delays which made for an interesting journey as this is rural - BUT the directions are excellent from the property link on VRBO. Even solid you can arrive in the day it would likely be better. Only when we awoke could we appreciate how wonderful the cottage and gardens are. The views are absolutely beautiful. To float about in the pool while listening to the birds and looking down the river will certainly fasttrack relaxation. A couple of minutes walk down the river you’ll find the paddle boards and kayaks and in just a few minutes you’re out on the water which was an easy area to paddle about or explore a little further afield. We are a family and our teens are 13 and 15.We had a couple of little issues but they were responded to in minutes. We called because of a problem with the gate and before we knew it, it was repaired. There were many excursions we could have done but we spent half of our time enjoying the site itself for a much needed break and in the evening playing cards and chatting. And of course making use of the pool, kayaks and SUPs. The excursions we chose were going inland to Piñhao for a scenic drive, a day trip to Porto (a must), a day at the Amarante water park and a trip to FC Porto.The cottage is one of the best equipped I’ve ever used: we had a bottle of Port and local cakes plus a big bottle of water waiting for us on arrival plus lots of essentials which reduced our shopping list. "I so wish I had more than one night. The staff (2eonderful ladies) at the front desk were amazing. They have a local cab driver who is remarkable. Wonderful breakfast, beautiful grounds and I easily would have paid double for my incredible suite. Need to treat and pamper yourself ??? This is the place !!!! "

"Comfortable, plenty of space, clean, excellent host. It was a relaxing environment with excellent views, but the pool and games room meant there was plenty to do. We were on a stag do so relaxing have a bbq whilst gearing up for another night out in Porto helped. Also, great for families. "

"Great for a short term stay. Beautiful building in a lovely historic town (small cafes, restaurants, historic sights, etc.). Offsite owners who were responsive and provided clear guidelines on how to access the property."

"Hotel needs a serious upgrade / revamp, walls dirty and carpets worn and dirty. Couch in room dirty; horrible mattresses and pillows; hair in beds; carpet stained, worn and dirty; walls marked and scuffed; kitchenette terrible - taps and sink dirty, extractor oily and smelly. Not to mention the TV... Breakfast limited and selected cappuccino from coffee machine and got a hot chocolate... 🙈 Not at all aligned to the pictures and reviews "

"I expected more to be honest especially for the prices. Ive used the spa facility before and that is brilliant but this was the first time staying. Lobby looks great but rooms need renovating. There was also a christmas party on one of the nights so music was quite loud and could be heard in the room thankfully it wasn't on till very late but still not what you expect when staying at a soundproof hotel. The spa hours are also restricted some days so we were unable to use the facilities during our stay. Other hotels have extended hours for guests and earlier opening times. "

"This house was really unique for us for its rustic look and use of natural materials. The beds were comfortable, and there was so much space to relax including huge patio and cozy living room. It might be a bit out of the way from the main road, but it made it feel like a country escape. We had a great time."
