"Jim, the property owner, was exceptionally communicative throughout our booking process. Unfortunately Hurricane Lala kept us from actually staying at the property, but Jim kept us updated on road and site conditions before and after our stay. He also fully refunded our fees once it was determined we couldn’t get there safely. Next time we are in Hawaii we’ll certainly book this again…. Looks delightful and is well hosted!"

"The flora and fauna surrounding the unit is amazing. I took at least 25 pictures to savor the memories of the beauty. The unit is tiny but we were more than willing to spend a few nights in a small space in order to enjoy the beauty all around us. The shower was excellent.The outdoor sitting space was an enjoyable extra.Would highly recommend."

"Liked: 1) The owner met us upon arrival and indicated where to park; 2) The “jungle-like” setting; 3) The quiet setting; 4) The cottage-like unit, especially the tree trunk columns; and 5) The papaya and fig bar “continental breakfast.” Not liked: 1) The lack of clear signage and way-finding; and 2) The mustiness of the unit."

"The owners (different than the host) are the best! They made sure that we have everything we need to make our stay comfortable and stress-free as our house in Ka’u was damaged by Hurricane Lala. The Nene Room was beautiful, clean and peaceful with its large picture window overlooking the serene forest. We also stayed in Gecko room that has one bedroom, living room, and kitchen. The Gecko room is comfortable and perfect for family and longer stays. The surrounding is quiet and close to stores, restaurants, and very close proximity to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park."

"Lovely spot to enjoy Volcano National Park. The small town is quite limited, so maybe not ideal for a long stay. The Bamboo Guest house was well suited for our family of four. Our two children slept on the “floor futons” and were very comfortable. The house is not air conditioned, which means the windows must be open when it is warm out, allowing some bugs and moisture in. But, the rain forest vibes are pretty nice. Really enjoyed the Japanese soaking tub. WiFi is very spotty. Host was lovely and the breakfast fruit and breads were nice additions."

"This cottage is so cute and cozy! Clean and convenient. Lovingly maintained by the owner who lives on the property. Super quiet spot hidden in the rainforest neighborhood. Loved the rain on the roof at night. It is located only minutes away from the national park so we could go into town for dinner and then go back into the NP at night to see the sunset and the lava flow glow. The town of Volcano is super small with limited groceries available, but there are some really good restaurants right there which were delicious!! We highly recommend this cottage!"
