The remains of Soda Springs, one of 49 mineral spring that attracted visitors to this area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The springs were developed by the Longmire family, who first settled the area in 1883 after building a wagon trail from Ashford, 13 miles (21 km) away. In addition to improving the springs, the Longmires constructed a series of cabins, tents, a 5-room hotel, and hiking trails to Paradise.

By 1915 the Longmires and the National Park were no longer seeing eye-to-eye, and the Longmires leased the property to a hotelier, who improved and continued to operate the springs until the National Park Service purchased the property in 1939. You can visit the remains of a few mineral springs and an 1888 cabin by hiking the short and flat Trail of Shadows loop (0.7 mi/1.1 km). It's an easy walk, and there's a nice view of Mount Rainier from the meadows.

"The cabin had everything we needed and more including all kitchen items and lots of games/puzzles for fun family time. The fire pit was the highlight for us and we spent several hours each evening enjoying a fire and smores. Easy access to the national park and a short drive back to cabin after a long day hiking and exploring, the cabin has a great location and amenities. "This inn and rooms are wonderful! Cozy but plenty of room. Amenities and breakfast snacks were appreciated. Rooms have refrigerator, microwave & coffee, but also a full kitchen available, and a nice living area to use. Very clean and furnished with extra touches. Located right down the road from park entrance. Quiet, country setting. "

Peaceful Getaway

"Overall our stay at this property was wonderful. The amenities worked as advertised. We loved the hot tub and the fire pit, though our favorite part about this place was exploring the river behind the property. Our only issue was getting the coffee maker to work, so my wife had cowboy coffee while we watched the birds on our last morning. We’d definitely come back. "

"The uniqueness of this property is every cabin has its private hot tub, fire pit and lounging area, well partitioned from other cabins. The owner is religious about having the hot tub ready the minute you arrive. The cabin we had was Art Studio, its hot tub is located right by a creek (Copper Creek), we enjoyed it very much. "
