Slovenia is full of remarkable places to visit. A few hours northeast of Ljubljana, the capital, lies a region of alpine valleys that will take your breath away. I took this photo shortly after sunrise on the ridge between two of those valleys.

Having your own set of wheels certainly makes getting around this area a lot easier. For accommodation I'd recommend Luce, a small town a stone's throw away from the action, where there are a few options.

The trails can be hard to locate and very slippery when covered with snow so tread carefully or, preferably, wait until it disappears.

"We fell in love with Slovenia and this area in particular. The drive up to the hotel was breathtaking and a little scary but the view from every vista was spectacular. The room was clean, large and bright with a balcony. We ended up having dinner there twice - the only time on our lengthy trip we did that - because the food was delicious! "

"Staff were super friendly and helpful, the room we was in was really clean and the bedding gave me the best night's sleep I've had in a long time, couldn't recommend this place more, with a quick drive to the city and the breakfast was also really good, nice selection with coffee being freshly made.
