Beautiful Country Cottage! Stunning Mountain Views! Great Hiking to Waterfalls!

Asheville is only 1/2 hour away but you can enjoy the best of both possible worlds by staying in pristine countryside in a beautiful, stunning private cottage. You will be enchanted by the Clearfield Cottage which was featured out of thousands of rentals in the area on ABC TV's reality show Sweet Retreats. The cottage is nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains with a spectacular view of Mount Mitchell and surrounding mountains but is only ½ hour from Asheville’s world-class restaurants, entertainment, and the famous Biltmore Estate. The cottage and grounds have become a destination paradise for honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays and even intimate weddings. This entire two story, romantic cottage is entirely new, fresh, green built, green furnished and eco-friendly. The unique interiors feature original artwork and mosaics by owner and internationally renowned artist Rachel Clearfield. The downstairs kitchen, dining and living area has a stunning mosaic floor, named "Stepping Stones in a Flower Garden" made of Brazilian polished granite. Upstairs is the amazingly intricate, mosaic bathroom shower called "Trees of Beauty" made of European marble and colorful stones. The kitchen has all granite countertops. The upstairs bedroom has a beautifully finished 100-year-old maple floor and a sumptuously comfortable queen size futon bed with luxurious linens.

Outside the cottage there is a peaceful shade garden with a rose covered gazebo in which you can swing, listen to the creek and watch the birds and butterflies. Guests are welcome to enjoy and roam through the beautiful English style flower gardens. You also have a lovely outdoor sitting area right by your back door, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee or sipping a glass of evening Chardonnay and stargazing the sequined night sky without light pollution. There's also a wonderful barbecue, fire pit and sitting area right by your own private creek.

This cottage is a perfect getaway for a romantic weekend, birthdays, anniversaries, soulful retreats, girl’s time together or just a quiet, peaceful place to let go of the challenges and stresses in life and return to the simple joys of existence and beauty. The owners are recording artist, cellist and conductor Ron Clearfield and his wife, fine artist Rachel Clearfield. There is an abundance of creative energy on this property for anyone who needs a place to find that seed of inspiration for their next book, album or painting. Without a doubt, this is a paradise for painters, photographers and nature lovers or just anyone who is looking for a beautiful, fulfilling time in the mountains.

Lovely views and safe. My wife and I were able to disconnect from the business of our daily lives ( it was needed ) and our girls enjoyed the opportunity to pet the pibe and the dog. Thank you Ron and Rachel !

My husband, our 4 year old and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Rachel and Ron. The house is absolutely beautiful and the views are stunning. We enjoyed the butterfly gardens and watching the horses. Asheville is a short distance, maybe 20 mins or so.

The scenic drive into the area begins to prepare you for a truly unique and beautiful experience. Play Rons CDs as you take in Rachels beautiful tiling and art of the cottage and while you are having coffee overlooking the mountains and rolling hills. We hiked a small trail around the cottage and enjoyed watching the two ponies as well as following Ron’s recommendations for hiking the BRP and visiting surrounding towns. It is such a peaceful and beautiful retreat.

We couldn't have imagined anything more perfect. The views are beautiful. The house is in a lovely setting. There is a trail to do a short hike to get even more spectacular views. Just stunning. And we appreciated the extra kindnesses. Thank you Rachael and Ron!

Our family had the pleasure of visiting the cottage over the New Year's holiday. It was a wonderful escape! My two daughters especially loved interacting with the horses and they still talk about Princess Pumpkin! The hosts of the property made us feel very welcomed and were prompt to respond to any need we might have. The cottage was clean, neat, and perfect for our family. The artwork was beautiful. We hope to stay here again soon!

If you want to get away from it all and enjoy some quite peaceful moments this is the place. Our stay was in September, a bit off season, but the scenery inside and out was absolutely gorgeous. The art and music provided the perfect atmosphere. Everything was very clean and maintained. The owners provided for all our needs and even gave us great suggestions on places to eat nearby and scenic routes to take. We would love to do it all over again.

I know it's not "ours" technically but it felt like home. We loved waking up to beautiful, peaceful sunrises in this cozy place. We needed to escape city living for a while and this was the perfect place. We hiked, we cooked, we slept (very well I might add). I wish we could have stayed longer. Rachel and Ron were wonderful hosts (Sparky, our hooved friends and kitty cat were great companions). We are looking forward to our next visit.

The cottage was just as described. It is in a beautiful setting - very peaceful. My husband and I stayed for three nights and were quite comfortable. Ron and Rachel were friendly and welcoming but gave us plenty of privacy. We had packed food for breakfast and one dinner, since there don't appear to be any restaurants very nearby. The kitchen had all we needed. The drive to Asheville was about 30 minutes as expected, and it's a pleasant drive. It was also a pretty easy drive to hiking trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we checked out the town of Weaverville, too. We highly recommend the cottage!

This was a fantastic stay. The place is as described, clean , beautiful, all amenities in perfect working condition. And at a very affordable rate. It honestly could not be better. The location is superb- in the lap of beautiful mountains, privacy, seclusion, but with all conveniences just 30 minutes away. Beautiful views of mountains and meadows, fire place, chairs, swing in gazebo. A perfect way to be in commune with beautiful nature. The hosts were also amazing - Polite, warm hearted, absolutely wonderful in all ways. They showed us around in their garden, and sent us back with loads of wonderful home-grown herbs and vegetables. Overall - a full 5-star experience. We just cant wait to be back!

This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the scenery. The cottage is very nice and tucked away from the city of Asheville, which is 15-20 min away. We were greeted by their friendly dog, Sparkie, on the way in. Be advised that it is a dirt road getting in and out of the cottage. Going too fast in a normal car is not a good idea. On our way out we met Ron, who was a very pleasant person, and thanked him for providing a great place to stay. I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to get away from it all.

We had an absolutely amazing stay here. This beautiful cottage stays with you. Rachel and Ron are amazing hosts and artists. There is a beautiful white horse that we were convinced was truly a unicorn if we could only see. There is so much thought and love put into every nook and cranny of this cottage. Rachel's art is beautiful and throughout the cottage. Ron's music is so soothing and brilliant. It's very close to Asheville which was easy to get to. This location is great bc it satisfies your need for peace, beauty, and harmony, while being an easy drive to the happening restaurants and culture of Asheville. I highly recommend this property. A nature and art lover's haven.

This place is gorgeous inside and all around! We loved it! All the good stuff about the interiors that everyone says. The gardens are amazing. It is a good drive from Asheville, so if you want close to the city, this is not for you. The higher elevation makes for cooler temps than Asheville, a welcome thing in July! Tips for future loggers: The place has a coffee maker and filters; however, I would bring a coffee measure with me next time as there are no measuring spoons or measuring cups. You might want to pick up some ice on your way in. There's are ice cube trays, but there wasn't really enough when we got there, although we refilled them and had plenty the next day. These were minor problems. We loved our stay!

My wife and I arrived at this idyllic cottage after a 14 hour ride from CT. As soon as we got inside, we could feel the tranquility of the setting just melt away our stress. We immediately felt like we were home. The brook which runs just outside the cottage does wonders for creating this atmosphere. Even the rain on the tin roof panels created a wonderful sound which helped us sleep soundly! The photos don't do justice to how beautiful the area really is. The place was clean and comfortable. Ron and Rachel were great with pointing us in the right direction for what we needed to find (groceries, etc.) Downtown Asheville is great. There is a lot to see and do. We fell in love with the Mellow Mushroom restaurant. The food was excellent! There is something for every palette there. When we come back to the area, we'll likely stay at the cottage again. My wife and I wholeheartedly recommend this place!

The visit to Asheville is part of our honeymoon, and just like our marriage, the cottage is brand new. We are so lucky to be the first guests. The floor downstairs is covered with hand picked marbles and mosaic arranged in beautiful patterns. The walls are decorated with lots of original paintings, which are well matched with the cottage and the views from windows. The mountain views from two large windows of the cottage are fantastic. The hosts are very friendly people. Upon our arrival, we had a bootle of champagne sitting on the table together with a platte of chocolate and a beautifully arranged boutique of hand picked flowers. We also had a great time visit their main house and picked some great fresh vegetables in their garden. The drive way to this cottage is a half mile stretch of gravel road. But it is not difficult to access. We drove a toyota corolla and it was not a problem for us.

This was our second visit to the incomparable Clearfield cottage. It just gets better. We spent our mornings in the large window-seat overlooking what can only be described as paradise: a mosaic of English gardens, sweeping mountain vistas, whimsical storybook characters like the small horse who *loves* carrots and the frolicking sheepdog (aptly named after the word 'adorable'). By night, we enjoyed the galactic display of stars and lightening bugs glittering outside, listening to the stirring cello music on Ron's CDs and gazing at the art exhibited throughout the cottage walls and floors: Rachel Clearfield has not yet met a medium (cabinets, jewelry, canvas) she cannot make breathtakingly beautiful. Of course, we availed ourselves of the nearby goings-on: hiking trails (highly recommend Craven Gap) Asheville beer tours, farmers markets, live music. Clearfield cottage is what happens when artists find Earth. It is exquisite and we will be back very soon.

This cottage and the surrounding property definitely feel like they are straight out of a fairytale. We did both the hikes on the property and the view is just stunning from up there. The longer hike to the little waterfall is well worth it. We had fun getting to know the pony, the dog, a kitty, and even some friendly donkeys who came up to us as we walked past their paddock and let us pet them. Directly surrounding the cottage is a hammock strung up with a little creek that runs right underneath it, and Ron and Rachel's beautiful gardens in the other direction. It has plenty of little places to sit and enjoy the garden and the stunning mountain views. The inside of the dwelling is so full of enchanting details and is quite cozy and comfy. So much care was obviously taken with the construction of the cottage and with the beautification of each piece of furniture. There was plenty of storage and we found it quite roomy. Definitely don't pass up the chance to stop by Addison Farms Vineyard, it's only about 15 mins away. It's a breathtaking, real vineyard with rows of vines and incredible 360° mountain views. We did the tasting and bought a few bottles. Also check out grateful roots, a nearby corner store with local goodies and amish meats and cheeses- delicious! The South Slope area of Asheville is also a quick drive away and is our favorite part of Asheville! We loved Green man, Burial, the Funkatorium, and South Slope cheese shop.

Like the title? Took me all night. I seem to be drawn to these VRBO's. I want a connection to my surroundings. I want a bit more seclusion than center of things, but I want to be close to those things when I need them. I need a great bed, a great view and a functioning home. In this case, I wanted them drop dead in the middle of the leaves changing near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Asheville. I was not disappointed at all. This unique dwelling is completely decorated door to ceiling by the owner. The pictures on the site are identical to the ones I took. The towels were fresh and fluffy, the house was clean and odorless. There are pets on the property, but I am a severe cat/dog allergy sufferer and I can tell you the house was clean. we all slept amazingly. The huge windows were incredible. The "chinese dragon" ;) like clouds that rise from the mountains were gorgeous as we ate breakfast in an acceptably stocked kitchen. My wife loves to sleep in, but she set the alarm to not miss the sunrise. That sentence alone could have been my whole review. For our time of year Late Oct. 2015 we were not hot or cold day or night. The house was perfectly balanced. I think that is what you will take away from choosing this home. Balance. We really loved it. What then set it apart for sure were the owners. Rob and Rachel are the real deal. Genuine people who get why you are there and are willing to help you in any way. These two souls we will not soon forget....and Sparky. Their dog. Think of a TV dog that is definition of friendly charming dog. Thats Sparky. Okay some quick notes. The driveway. Do not rent a Fiat. You will need traction to get there. It's a gravel driveway with a steep climb. Google Maps even said prepare to walk to your destination. It is not next door to the Biltmore. Not that they said it is, but it's 20-25 minutes into Asheville, but only 10 to an Ingles grocery, 5 minutes to gas and a Dollar General. Again. Its out there, but not OUT there. If you have trouble with balance or stairs this might not be the place for you. You are in the mountains and the grade is not ADA. It sleeps 2 adults and 2 kids or if you are a go with the flow adult the Futon is great. There is a TV. Windows are better. BIG surprise. The wifi! It was impressive for 1.5 in the middle of God's country. I wouldnt stream Netflix, but you can fly through emails and Facebook. You'll need those as you brag to your friends with the great house you found! Thanks Clearfield's!!!

The cottage was perfect. The artwork and tile work inside were so beautiful and interesting, only to maybe be rivaled by the gorgeous sunrises and garden. The owners were very responsive to questions and loved meeting them and their dog. Their pony was super cute too. Conveniently located to Asheville and all it has to offer as well as hiking trails. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our second stay at the cottage and it was our very first vrbo 8yrs ago. My wife loved it so much that she wanted to go back. Our son who is now 12yrs old got to sled a little bit this time with the snow. My wife got to recreate pictures of him when we first visited when he was 4yrs old. Took the long hike around the property this time as well. Great owners and great property.
