"This was lovely place to stay - we were in the last two 'legs' of a 1300 mile road trip to Scotland (and back!) - possibly the best, as it matched all our needs for a quiet evening, in a beautifully-appointed, clean ensuite room, and a restful comfortable sleep! Our hosts, Mark & Paula were welcoming (tasty cookies!), quiet and unobtrusive (checking what bed configuration - king or twin - we wanted in advance), serving our preferred choice of tasty breakfasts at our room 's table & chairs. Their directions were great and their off-road parking was just outside the back door. What more could any touring couple want for an overnight stay?"

"This is a wonderful place to stay--convenient to the train station and the center of town, but in a quiet area. We stayed twice, before and after hiking in the Lakes District, and stayed in two different rooms. The beds are very comfortable, and both rooms had space for us to spread out. Tip: when it's really hot, the lower floors are cooler! Breakfast is great; we only got the continental, but it comes with porridge or overnight oats, and the menu for full breakfast looked fantastic and Sue cooks to order. And her fruit buffet can't be beat! Sue is a great host, and while she maintains a very clean place, she warmly accommodates bikers and hikers who arrive in less-than-clean condition (even a little early), and she has a place to store bikes and dry their shoes, etc.--this seems like a great place for the Coast-to-Coast riders to stop."

Ghyll Foot Cottage in Ainstable, Eden Valley, Cumbria

"Cute little cottage - in a friendly village. Can recommend the Sunday lunch at Heather Glen Hotel. Nice pubs in neighbouring village of Armathwaite, plus a very accommodating shopkeeper, who went out of his way to source a lovely pork pie. Very helpful host who provided lots of useful information before our visit. The cottage was cosy, well equipped ( apart from requiring an outdoor broom - to sweep up dropping wisteria flowers, so didn’t keep walking them into house - had to get hoover out daily! )Comfy beds and good shower over bath ( needs a grab rail on wall for us oldies though).Nice private little patio garden to sit out in - getting sun for most of the day. We enjoyed some lovely walks with Donald our whippet - along the river and into Coomb woods in Armathwaite - made this our early morning dog walk as only took a few minutes to drive there - and could pick up supplies from the shop at the same time. High Stand Plantation very close by in the car too - ideal in hot weather. Very enjoyable stay - our first visit and hope to return."

"Staying at this hotel was a last minute thing due to a mix up at our original booking and I have to say it was a godsend! We arrived 45 minutes after booking and were welcomed by friendly staff and a very clean room. The location was great and we went on a bike ride around the very quaint village and down by the river. I would definitely stay here again as it’s a great village hotel with great staff."

"The property is wonderful and the garden and hot tub are great. Far more freedom than a hotel room or holiday inn .the local pub serves amazing food with a friendly atmosphere. Really pleased we booked it. "

"Nicely appointed cottage that had everything you could need.Plenty of internal space, outside rooftop patio and hidden garden area.No wifi signal, and poor mobile phone signal added to the seclusion - away from the real world. Very rural, transport necessary to get anywhere."
