Hotel Excelsior Splendide

"We stayed at Excelsior Splendide in Bellagio for a couple of days. The location is excellent — very central and within easy walking distance of everything. By North American standards, our room, bathroom and beds were extremely small. I’m only 158 cm and 60 kg, and even I found the bed so narrow that I was genuinely afraid of falling out during the night! Breakfast was a highlight — plentiful, with a great selection, including plenty of meat and savory options. I also really enjoyed the pool area and garden lounges overlooking Lake Como, surrounded by beautiful lemon trees. One inconvenience was having to take additional stairs from the elevator to reach our room. There was no ramp for rolling luggage, and unfortunately there was no bellboy available to help. The gelato shop on the ground floor was fantastic, with lots of flavors — the simple yogurt gelato was to die for! We also enjoyed dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was easy to book. Having dinner by the water at sunset was lovely. For lunch, we grabbed food from the hotel’s street-side restaurant, which had a good selection of salads and drinks. Overall, a decent stay for the price, with an unbeatable central Bellagio location, beautiful lake views, good food and some charming outdoor areas."

"It was a very nice hotel kind of confusing to get around from reception to my room to the pool. Very quiet hotel. But the location is perfect. Close to everything. Would definitely recommend."

"This is your average hotel for commuters. The town the hotel is located in is not anything special, and the area surrounding the hotel is not the nicest. However, the hotel itself is well-maintained, clean and spacious. The staff was very helpful, the room was great, and the air conditioner worked exceptionally well. My group chose this hotel because it was a quick train ride into Milan and a quick ride to MXP airport. For us, it served its purpose well. We were in a large group; however, the walk to the train station from the hotel did not feel exceptionally safe at night and should be taken into consideration if you are planning to use the train as a mode of transportation."

Palace Grand Hotel Varese

"It was certainly a beautiful hotel. It needs to be renovated. I was told that this winter they are closing down for a massive renovation project adding a lift and bringing the hotel up to par. The staff were excellent. The pool was divine, as was the general out door area and the bar was elegant but fun. Looking forwards to trying the renovated version. If travelling to see lake Como, it is a fair distance and generally a car is needed."
Hotel Funicolare

"We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Funicolare. We stayed in a family room, which was absolutely massive, with plenty of space for all of us and a very comfortable stay. The views were amazing and really added to the experience. We also had dinner at the hotel one evening and breakfast during our stay. The menu was varied, with plenty of choice, and everything we had was enjoyable. All of the staff were lovely and welcoming, but Luana at reception deserves a special mention. She was incredibly kind and helpful. We had unfortunately made a mistake when booking and selected the wrong dates, but Luana was so gracious and understanding and went out of her way to help us resolve the issue. Her kindness made a stressful situation so much easier. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend Hotel Funicolare. Spacious rooms, beautiful views, good food and genuinely wonderful staff."
