"I would not recommend Hotel Østersø. We arrived in Aabenraa for a 4-night stay for 4 guests in 2 rooms, costing nearly $900, and the property was nothing like what we expected from a functioning hotel. The building looked abandoned and poorly maintained, with broken glass near the front entrance/parking area. It did not feel safe or suitable for guests.
There appeared to be no other customers there, and the property lacked basic hotel facilities and atmosphere. The condition of the building made us extremely uncomfortable, especially since we were traveling as a group and expected a clean, safe place to stay. This was not a normal situation where we simply changed our minds; we could not reasonably stay somewhere that felt unsafe and neglected.
We immediately contacted Expedia for help and a refund, but the hotel refused to waive the cancellation policy. In my opinion, a cancellation policy should not apply when the accommodation itself is unsafe, not properly maintained, and not provided as advertised.
This experience caused major stress, wasted time, and left us scrambling to find another place to stay. Guests deserve honest listings and safe accommodations. Based on what we experienced, I would strongly avoid this hotel."
