"Ignore Karen’s review! Don’t be afraid to stay here. This is a lovely, quirky place. Super clean. Quiet. Check in was a breeze. There were two people waiting for us when we arrived and someone carried everything upstairs for us. It was a great place to stop overnight. We stayed on the top floor in a very big, pretty room that fit five (we were 4). Shared bathroom, but we were the only ones upstairs, so no big deal. The little black cat is super friendly and likes a little love. The chickens too. Fantastic restaurants nearby and easy access to Edinburgh. We loved it."

Barony Castle Hotel

"Right from the second we walked through the front door, we were met my smiling and helpful staff. All amenities were carefully pointed out to us 5/5 for reception staff. Unfortunately the room itself was a disappointment, whilst it was immaculately clean, there is no way I could describe it as a "deluxe room". I would describe it as a basic room. As it was our wedding anniversary I thought that upgrading to a deluxe would be a little bit special, big letdown. The bar area was again immaculately clean and the staff again friendly and helpful 5/5 to bar staff. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice, cereal, croissants, fruit, hot food (sausage, bacon, eggs - both fried and scrambled, potato scones, black pudding, fried tomato, beans and mushrooms. Toast is available, as is tea and coffee. Again 5/5 for the staff. The lounge areas are lovely with plenty of space both inside and outside. Swimming pool and sauna areas were great. We really enjoyed our stay despite the disappointment in the room. On the downside, the hotel is in need of a bit of TLC. Carpets on 1st floor down to reception need replaced, they are threadbare in numerous places. Wallpaper beginning to peel off and almost every ceiling we came across needs painted or replaced. The driveway leading up to the front door needs repaired, potholes all the way from initial entrance onto driveway, all the way to front door.These things are obviously outside of the staffs purview. Menu prices are a bit on the steep side."

"Our room was ready early which was very good. The room itself was clean spacious and comfortable with a lovely view over the golf course. Dinner was excellent and all the staff friendly and efficient, and the golf course was looking very good. However the decor could do with an update. The doors and woodwork in the public areas are a bit tatty, and the exterior of the building could do with a bit of maintenance. Although this did not detract from our enjoyment of this peaceful place."
