In the village of Herkersdorf (17 km south of Freudenberg) you can find the “Druidenstein”, a legendary basalt cone, located at 457 m altitude in the picturesque landscape of the Westerwald. According to tradition, Celtic priests built a place of worship on the Druid stone in pre-Christian times. On this sacrificial site, the Germanic goddess ‘Herka’ was worshiped (hence the name of the village: Herkersdorf).
A historic Way of the Cross leads from the Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche in the village centre to the Druidenstein. #LocalSecrets #Trovember #History
