Dream Cottage in the Gunks

This rustic cottage in the nature has everything you need in order to spend a memorable weekend or vacation away from hectic city life. It is perfect for a small family with two kids or a group of close friends. We provide clean bed sheets, towels, shampoo, conditioner, tea and coffee in a fully stocked kitchen. House is equipped with fast (200+mbs) wifi, huge hand made rustic wood table which is great for gatherings and gas fireplace carved out of beautiful local stone by the owner.

The house has 2 bedrooms railroad style. It is perfect for a couple with two kids as we have bunk beds that usually too tight for adults but perfect for kids. It has all the amenities including full kitchen with dishes, washer and dryer, gas fireplace (operational Oct-May), BBQ grill on the porch, fast (200+mbs) wireless internet, and brilliant stargazing close to spectacular Minnewaska State Park.

Sleeping accommodations:
Queen bed in master bedroom
Twin-sized bunk beds in another bedroom.

You will have full access to the house, parking for two cars right in front of the porch.

You will have the house for yourself, but we will be around the area, and available to text or email or emergency calls. Cell coverage is spotty in our area, but we have a wi-fi network with a good connection.

The Cottage is situated on top of the Shawangunk Ridge, (The Gunks) next to Minnewaska State Park and is surrounded by pine forest, the granite rocks, and breathtaking views

It is only 1 mile away from the spectacular Stony Kill Falls

Within short 4 miles, there is an entrance to the Minnewaska state park, with its well-maintained biking trails, crystal clear swimmable lakes, hiking trails, rock climbing and breathtaking views of the Hudson valley from over 2,000 feet high.

In the short vicinity, there are also 4 wineries, plenty of restaurants including famous Brauhaus (German food)

Art centers, organic farms, ski, skydiving, horseback riding, rock climbing, paragliding, and many many more.

The friendly hosts are local enthusiasts and are happy to share their knowledge of the best spots and variety of local activities with the guests of the house.

The car is the best way to get here, but there is also a bus from New York City to New Paltz - you can catch a cab from New Paltz to the house.

Kids:
Your child safety is fully on you as the Cottage is not equipped with childproof devices.

Cleaning:
We clean responsibly using Lysol antibacterial products!

Things to do around:
There is PLENTY! Biking, hiking, swimming, rock-climbing, skydiving, paragliding, wine tasting, restaurants, art centers, organic farms, harvest (apples, blueberries, peach, raspberry etc.) picking, caving, stargazing and many more. Please check our guestbook for more information

Water quality note:
We live in the Gunks and water is well known to be hard in our region. It is full of minerals including sulfur, so it is normal to feel some smell at times. I do have water treatment systems installed. The first stage is a large particle water filter which I usually change every 2-3 weeks. The second stage is a Clack water with a filter medium that handles hard water. The second stage was serviced in fall 2019 by professional water treatment service.

Garbage:
Our houses are neighboring beautiful Minnewaska State Park. It is great as guests can enjoy nature and tranquility but it also has its "cons". Our neighborhood does NOT allow for outside garbage containers because garbage attracts wild animals from the State park. Thus, we do not have outside garbage containers or trash service. Our caretakers take out garbage left by the guests after each of the reservation. If you accumulate the garbage during your stay and would like to get rid of it before your check out, you would need to find a public dumpster and take it there or you can let me know and I will ask my caretakers to dispose your garbage for you. If you want us to help you to dispose your garbage before the end of your reservation please let me know in advance in order for me to arrange the service.

Pests:
We do have monthly subscription to Terminix service and we treat for bugs and rodents periodically. Said that it is important to realize that we live in the nature and it is possible that some bugs or rodents get inside the Cottage once in awhile. We can promise that we do everything from our side to eliminate this issue but we cannot promise that there is absolutely no possibility to encounter any bugs or rodents. Nature is the nature. If you experiencing any issues please let us know and we will do our best to solve the issue for you.

Practically perfect in every way🐞
The cabin was perfect... almost. Check in was easy and the place is truly surrounded by trails and climbing. The bunk beds are in a room off the back of the house and it was cold. The back doors didn't feel very secure. There were also a lot of lady bugs. The fireplace had a hard-to-use controller and smelled of gas when we used it. There were no washcloths in the bathroom so we used a couple from the kitchen. There were ants by the fridge. We loved the decor and candles and insence. The long table behind the couch was ideal for spreading out and hanging out. I would stay there again for sure, but I'd sleep in the living room instead of the very back bedroom.

Lovely retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house was as described, cute little neighborhood and very quiet. We felt very at home and cozy in this house. Special details we loved: the incense, candles, and lots of throw blankets. For fellow cooking aficionados: there is good stainless steel cookware along with some non stick style skillets. Also there is a medium sized soup pot. A couple big knives and good wooden & plastic spatulas/big spoons/mixers etc. One note, I am 5'9" and the shower head was very close to my head, so if you are around 6' the shower may not be very comfortable. Very good communication with the host and it was easy to check in and check out of the property. The internet connection was very good the entire time. Also, the lighting in the house is lovely, lots of dimmers and warm light which I appreciate. The ambience is very cozy and warm.

Nice stay with ammenities
The check in process and communication with the host was very seamless. The place had a nice large living area with very good internet speeds. It was nice to stay in a quiet area, especially at night. The amenities including quality soaps, sheets, towels, and spices where very nice to have included.

Wonderful place to stay
As much as I booked the place I wish I would’ve booked it longer. Great place to be and check in was quick and easy and check out was amazing as well. Didn’t have any issue with anything. Great team. Great communication. Love it

decent house, good location, difficult owner
About 2 days before out departure we got a long, long, long list of don't dos from the owner. A lot of them having to do with his neighbors, including one that asked you to not walk on the streets in the neighborhood. Taken together it was very off putting. When we arrived at the house, the temperature inside was 65 degrees. I tired to follow his directions on using the thermostats but was not successful. I messaged the owner on VRBO asking for a phone number where I could reach him at and his assistant simply repeated the same instructions. They also were promoting a guide of the area they had compiled. I searched the house and could not find it. I again contacted the owner about the guide, the assistant sent me a link to it through VRBO but VRBO blocked it (according to him) so I never got the guide either. So 3 strikes and your out.
