Old Hall Hotel

"We had booked a twin room as we were attending an event at Buxton Opera House which is literally across the road. The room was clean and tidy. We had a bathroom with bath and shower over bath. The hotel is very old and it’s showing signs of that in certain places. However it is being refurbished slowly I understand having been taken over by Champneys who own the Crescent Hotel which is next door. The breakfast was a good choice and tea and coffee were served promptly. We parked right outside which cost £6 for 24 hours. This enabled us to have a little bit of retail therapy after breakfast and before we left. I had read some horrendous reviews before I booked but knowing the area and thought I would make my own mind up about it. Everything was good given the age of the hotel and much better than using the clinical type hotels like Premier Inns. It’s full of character and history concerning Mary Queen of Scotts. Try it and make your own mind up."

"Overall the hotel was very good. It was let down by the bar meals. We ate in the bar prior to going to the theatre. My wife (a coeliac) ordered a gluten free pasta (£19) which on arrival came with none of the advertised ingredients and was virtually inedible. I order a burger (£20) which on arrival looked like one that would be given to a child. It small, came with no coleslaw etc. The meals were served in a very brusque manner. The situation was retrieved to an extent by the excellent bar manager. Breakfast in the restaurant was good but the staff seemed overworked. The room itself was well appointed and was well maintained. It was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Everything was appointed to a high standard. The bathroom was really very good and couldn’t be faulted in anyway. The hotel was in an ideal location for the opera house and also for exploring the delights of Buxton. Parking proved quite easy."

"An extremely comfortable hotel, in a superb location for the city centre and entertainments such as the Crucible and cinemas, the room was spacious and with good facilities; excellent shower, good table space, large comfy bed. Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful and the breakfasts are great."
Leonardo Hotel Sheffield

"Hotel was fine, the DREAM beds are very comfortable, but there are some very inconsiderate customers who spoiled my stay this time! Slamming of bedroom doors & who has a shower at 2am in the morning and sets off the fire alarm! Okay, not the hotel’s fault, but l hate my sleep pattern being disturbed! The breakfast was good, varied and ample choice!"
