"Loved this hotel. It’s in a stunning setting that feels secluded in a beautiful bay but was just over a small hill to the city. Modern and friendly with an almost 1950s-60s resort vibe to it which we really enjoyed. The pool was excellent with vibrant well-appointed gardens surrounding the whole property. Great place to explore from, with paths, beaches and coastal walks and an easy 10-15min stroll into the town. Hiring a bike would have been a good option too. We extended our stay from 2 to...

"GOOD: The hotel is right on a beautiful sandy beach. It's a bit remote from bars, restaurants etc. The rooms are fairly large. The food was above average though not great. NOT SO GOOD: The hotel is very old and really needs to be torn down and rebuilt-especially to be charging as much as they are. I think the prices they are asking are ridiculous. My wife and I enjoyed our stay here-it's not terrible. But FOR THE PRICE I was disappointed "

"Great place for families visiting Shimoda and Izu Peninsula. Definitely a hotel catering to Japanese tourists, but with a little Japanese and respect the staff is very friendly and works with you. Some of the staff spoke some English. Bathhouse, arcade, and hotel amenities were great. Walking distance to everything downtown and easy spot to drive to other locations. Would definitely stay here again with family on vacation. "

"My spouse and I had a fantastic stay at Hotel Izukyu! I'm already planning to come back later in the summer. My Japanese is limited so we really appreciated the staff doing their best to explain policies in English. "The washlet bidet was not working. No change of room because of this issue. It is 15 minutes far which is hard to travel in Summer especially august. But otherwise, the stay and the people were pleasant. I loved the 温泉! "

"Nice traditional rooms - clean and good-sized. Loved the onsen/bath! Right on an easy bus route 3 stops /6 minutes from Shimoda station and another 5 stops/10 mins or so to Shirahama Beach. Cons - no wi-fi in rooms. Staff not very welcoming or friendly. There’s a Jonathon's family restaurant and a 7-11 but other than that very limited dining options within walking distance but Shimoda is very sleepy so without a car your options are pretty limited unless staying in the ‘city’ "

"This Ryokan was amazing. The staff were welcoming and gracious. The rooms are huge and traditional japanese style with futons and tatami mats. Each room had its own separate hot spring bath as well as separate men's and women's shared baths. The food was delicious and filling. It is located in a great small town nestled in a mountain valley. A quiet respite from the big city. Would definitely stay again! "
