Tucked away on one of the more quiet islands of the Bocas del Toro province in Panama, there is an ecolodge called 'Cocovivo'. Through a long chain of friends of friends, I discovered this little paradise where peacefulness is key. Originally set up as a co-working space, the owners of Cocovivo made this place a home away from home. Set up with the help of an indigenous Ngobe-Guble family, everything is ecological: yes, that means a compost toilet. If that does not convince you yet, then maybe the possibility to kayak surrounded by dolphins will. Or you can practice yoga on your stand-up paddleboard. Or jump from the diving board right in the Caribbean sea and explore the reef. Or go on a jungle walk and count all the sloths you can see. Or eat delicious food made with very very local ingredients. Or see the stars in the sky reflected in the water bioluminescent plankton. Who needs Bocas' party scene when you have the 'disco' lights above and underneath you right? "What a wonderful property and the host is such a great communicator, making preparation and staying there easy. I'd recommend getting food/drink/water supplies on the main island before coming over as the local store is good but is sometimes out of a few things "

"It was a wonderful experience. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. Ms. Ashley was very prompt in replying to my inquiries and made all the arrangements to pick us up from the airport and transfer us to her property. This house has an amazing view and it is a very well maintained property. Red Frog Beach Resort staff was very courteous. Overall this was a wonderful experience."

"Alex, the property manager was fantastic. I recommend getting What’s App and he will be very responsive. He lives upstairs. There are 3 bedrooms with 3 baths. 2 of the baths are down an outdoor breezeway but very close. Great patio area. BBS Bar next door has great good food and is over the ocean, wonderful! Good beach close. Walk around island is interesting as you get to see the locals who are very friendly. Bring bug spray!"

"This was my 60th birthday gift from my husband. What a gift! Clean, quiet, beautiful. My husband couldn't stay out of the water. He snorkeled and found a yellow sea horse hiding in the coral just off the deck. It was a joy to swim, snorkel, relax in the hammock and watch the sea that behaves like a lake. Phillip is a great host; making your stay easy and comfortable. Next time though, I'll take some videos to watch in bed."

"This was a unique and amazing place to stay.We loved it!! Lauren was an exceptional host from afar, and the people and places she suggested were all top notch, attentive, and wonderful. The house was so cool! Loved swimming off the front deck and so cool to pick up water taxi rides from our front door! Highly recommend this home for the adventurous types!"

"The house has a fantastic view. What was not mentioned is that it is literally 97 steps to get to it. When it rains some of the path way is very muddy. One of the wooden steps is not attached. There are chickens and roosters all around which is entertaining except when the roosters start crowing at 2am. The neighbors blasted music outside of their houses every night we were there which lasted as late as 2am. It was a different house every night with sound equipment set up on the porch. There...

"We enjoyed our stay & plan to return! Home was very clean and contained all necessities. Host was very communicative, and property manager was on site in a separate home and assisted us immediately when we had any questions. The beds were super comfortable, bedrooms had wonderful air conditioning and storage. We enjoyed the open air living room and kitchen, feeling truly one with nature."

"This is a great place to stay in Bocas Town and be removed from the hustle and bustle. If you aren't aware that's what you're doing, it could be a hassle. We liked being a little removed and getting some quiet at night for better sleep. The place is nice - be sure you're aware of which unit you're getting. They all have great locations and water access, but there are differences."

"Remote and quiet place away from the maddening crowds and noise. Great for relaxing and snorkeling. The water is warm, clear and very safe to swim in. (apart from couple of hours of wind it was like a mirror - no waves and smooth) There is a narrow band of coral in front of the villas with many colorful fish. "Amazing stay in every aspect but if you are staying here over the weekend just know there is a night club bar right next door and you will be partying with them wether you like it or not till at least 3 am Friday and Saturday night! Having that said they do supply the rooms with ear plugs which were a life safer for us! Would I stay here again? Absolutely 100% ! Oh and how can this hotel do any wrong with the onsite ice cream shop! We had a small vanilla cup of ice cream every night with chocolate chip cookies mixed in! 10/10 neto.eats approved! We stayed in the suite and highly recommend! The sunrises and sunsets were absolutely stunning!"

"Amazing time across the board staying at both the Treehouse and the Ocean Villa for the week. The attention to the details made this an experience like no other. The treehouse created a one-of-a-kind experience especially with the views and birds around the island. Highly recommend doing both. The service staff were extremely kind and attentive to all needs with a caring spirit of service. The housekeeping staff kept the places immaculate each day. The food quality was exceptional, especially at dinner each night in the Elephant House. The focus and creativity of each meal along with the unique presentation each night really made it special. "I have stayed here many times, and the relaxed vibe always brings me back. The grounds have one of the best sunset views. The staff is fun and attentive. We think the restaurant has some of the best food and drinks in Bocas. It easy to get a water taxi to Isla Colon or other islands. You can relax by the pool, enjoy the beautiful garden, or read a book in your over the water cabina."
