About this property
Everett Cottage at Indian Point (Bar Harbor)
This is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful locations on Mount Desert Island. Located in the town of Bar Harbor, on protected Western Bay, our cottage sits so close to the ocean that water laps against the deck at high tide. The property is immediately adjacent to the Blagden Indian Point Preserve. Many visitors come to the Preserve to see the harbor seals basking in the sun at low tide.
Please do not bring jet-skis or other motorized water-craft. The low-tide resting area for the federally protected harbor seals is VERY close, and these types of vehicles will disturb them.
Enjoy the 1970`s retro decor. This is a family getaway for us and we enjoy keeping it the way we remember as children.:-) Bedrooms 2 & 3 are both lofts. One loft has a privacy curtain and the other uses free-standing privacy screens. The only bedroom with true privacy is the master bedroom.
This cottage is NOT appropriate for very small children. The cottage has open lofts. Also, at low tide the rocks are very slippery.
There is no air conditioning because this is the Maine coast. For the handful of hot days, there are fans available.
No smoking of any kind is allowed on the property, inside or outside. If you are a smoker, thank you very much for your interest, but you should probably choose a different listing. We wouldn`t want withdrawal symptoms to ruin your vacation:-)
The best view of the seals is from our deck. With over a thousand feet of shoreline, we have a beach for convenient kayak access as well as picturesque rocky ledges. Located 20 minutes away from Acadia National Park.
Guests have access to the entire house and the entire property.
Guests will generally only interact with caretaker.
The property is located in a very private location. There is no neighborhood. Closest groceries are about five miles away.
Bedrooms 2 & 3 are both lofts. One loft has a privacy curtain and the other uses free-standing privacy screens. The only bedroom with complete privacy is the master bedroom.
Never leave anything on the beach. During a spring tide (any tide that occurs during a full or new moon) the beach can be fully submerged at high tide. - Property is only suitable for children if they can swim in strong currents and are supervised. - We say no to events or parties in order to add the disclaimer that this is a home on the rocky Maine coast and does not mix well with alcohol. Dinner parties/family events are fine. - Absolutely NO SMOKING inside or outside the cottage. If you are a smoker, please find another place to rent. - Pets are approved only on a case-by-case basis. - Kayaks are available for rental to individuals listed on a signed watersports waiver. - NOTE: YOU CANNOT PADDLE KAYAKS TOWARD THE RESTING SEALS. THIS WILL SPOOK THEM AND THEY WILL PILE INTO THE WATER AND THEIR REST WILL BE RUINED FOR THE DAY. THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW AND THE NEIGHBORS WILL CALL THE SHORE PATROL ON YOU. NO FIREWORKS EVER. ALWAYS AGAINST THE LAW IN BAR HARBOR. THE NEIGHBORS WILL CALL THE POLICE.

The only reason I rated 4 Stars for accuracy of online listing is that I truly think they under sold it! We absolutely couldn't have asked for a greater property! Placement on the shore, provided kayaks, proximity to seals at low tide and beautiful sunsets with following star gazing made for the most spectacular Maine experience! Loved it!

Disliked: Cleanliness
Short Acadia stay
The setting is picturesque, beautiful ocean, rugged coastline, fun seals...on the "quiet side" of the island. We found the home easily. Communication was easy with the owner. We pushed our budget a bit to rent this place since it was in such a beautiful location. While my kids thought the house was fun was neat and cool, I struggled with it. Yes, it's vintage, and was likely a hopping place back in the 70's & 80's. I understand Craig's goal of keeping it like how his grandparents had it, and realistically he can do that, but he needs to start making some updates before minor problems become major ones. There were some cleanliness issues upon our arrival and Craig and his property manager were prompt in addressing them and trying to fix them for the future. It was very hot during our stay, thankfully there are ample fans to help circulate air; but I really missed the AC.
