"Lovely pub! Cosey, clean modern room. The staff were very welcoming and friendly the only gripe we had was the evening meals were not as good as we thought and the price was a little on the high side given the standard of food but on the flip side breakfast was supurb. Would definitely stay here again."

"The Royal Hotel was excellent and we would certainly recommend staying there. The food was very good at dinner & snack lunch. Breakfast was fine for us and we would have liked a better fruit collection. More brochures of surrounding places to visit would be helpful. "

"I have not stayed here for years and was surprised to see that its still a Brend Hotel ( family hotel). I went for breakfast and it was a traditional waiter service breakfast eg you are shown to a table, another waiter takes your order, you choose the items you want and its freshly cooked ( no food sitting under a heated light)"

"I found The Royal & Fortescue to be a lovely comfortable place to stay in the centre of Barnstaple very close to all amenities including the bus station which was so handy for getting to other near by attractions. The hotel is very clean and welcoming. We had a really nice relaxing stay and if in Barnstaple again would be more than happy to stay again."
