This newly built cabin will take your breath away. You’ll fall in love with all the care & attention its owners have put into every detail. From the stunning cedar beams that provide the backdrop to the incredible lake views to the hand-crafted interior woodwork and the beautiful kitchen, you will see how unique and special this cabin is.

Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. She lives nearby and is available 24/7 to assist her guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.

Cedar Ridge is on the very tip of Bark Point, a spit of land that extends several miles out into Lake Superior. From the property you've got a great view of the bay behind the point, and for another look you can check out the boat landing a little farther out on the point. You're also just a few minutes from the beautiful estuary at the head of the bay. To get your feet wet in the open water of Lake Superior there’s no better spot than Herbster Beach, which is just a few minutes down the road.

The other South Shore towns, Port Wing to the west and Cornucopia to the east, are both close by, both with their own beaches. Port Wing has an awesome coffee shop that roasts its own beans (we stock them in the house) and a great little convenience store with a fish counter. Cornucopia (or ‘Corny' as the locals call it) has an excellent coffee shop, a general store, and a few restaurants and shops. It can be a little more crowded, but it's got a few more amenities, too. Bayfield is close by, too, about 45 minutes’ drive: perfect to check out the attractions over there then return to your South Shore oasis for another Superior sunset. Ashland, where you’ll find more stores and amenities, is just under an hour away. Duluth and Superior are about and hour and a quarter to the west.

The first thing you'll notice upon making your way to the cabin is how secluded it feels. The winding driveway down to the cabin takes you through the woods of Bark Point in Herbster. You'll feel your stress melting away as you leave your "real" life concerns behind. The cabin sits on nearly 3.5 acres on Bark Point. Much of the land is wooded, which gives you privacy and quiet. The edge of the property offers expansive Lake Superior views along its ridgeline over the lake.

The cabin itself is 100% designed and built by the home's owners. We don't like to play favorites with the properties we manage, but we will confess this is one near & dear to our hearts. The exterior architecture fits perfectly into the natural setting, including the main feature of the structure: an absolutely stunning set of cedar beams which frame the views out to the lake & woods from the cabin & its back patio/porch.

Once you enter the cabin, you'll see the thoughtful design and attention to detail continue. The front door opens into the cabin's great room, which has an open plan living, dining & kitchen area with soaring ceilings. And then there are the floor-to-ceiling windows which offer stunning views of the woods & lake. The living area has a comfy sectional sofa, relaxed lounging chair, Smart TV (and DVD player), and even a combo stereo/record player/bluetooth speaker. Dining chairs for six are arranged around the huge kitchen island. And then there is that kitchen: you'll want to take it home with you! You'll find everything you need to cook to your heart's desire: all brand-new appliances (including a gas stove/oven and the rarity of a dishwasher), wide range of small appliances, and fully equipped cooking & baking gear. Even the dishes & mugs show the same charm and attention to detail!

The lower level also houses the main bedroom, which has a king bed, and the bathroom. The bathroom has a huge walk-in shower with a large rain shower head.

Upstairs are the other two bedrooms: one with a twin and a queen bed, and the second with a queen bed.

However, we suspect you'll make the most of the shared living areas and the great outdoors! The cabin looks out onto the back patio that wraps around the cabin. The patio has a gas grill and stone steps that take you a short distance down to the sitting area around the fire pit. S'mores anyone? There is an attached screened-in entryway that has a large table (picnic table type with seating), as well as special lighting and games.

A trail leads you from the patio through the woods and along the lakeshore ridge. The owner has cleared a lovely little area where you can sit and look out at the lake, enjoy the amazing sunrises, and listen to the waves (and little else other than the occasional eagle's cry and fishing boat).

Cedar Ridge is truly an exceptional experience for those who want to escape to the Northwoods, but sacrifice none of the comforts of home.



Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!

This home is in a heavily wooded area, seasonal pests/bugs can be expected.
Though water-facing, there is no direct beach access from the property. Watch children and pets near the bluff/water edge, there is no fencing.
This home is dog friendly: While we make a considerable effort to clean up pet hair between guests, there may still be a few stray hairs in the home.
