About this property

Modernized 1880s Home – Family-Friendly, Steps to Downtown Harpers Ferry

  • Summary:

Sleeps 8 in this beautifully modernized 1880s Federal-style home on Camp Hill — a quiet, 10-minute walk to historic downtown Harpers Ferry and the train station. Four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, an open-concept kitchen and living area, and a private patio make this an easy fit for families or groups. Steps from the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Headquarters and minutes from Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, John Brown's Fort, and the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers. Loved by guests for its comfort, communication, and character.

    The Space:

Known as "The Spy House," this fully restored 1880s home blends historic charm with modern comfort. The open-concept living room and kitchen make it easy for everyone to gather, and the wood-burning stove adds character (note: fires are not permitted in the stove or anywhere on the property).

The eat-in kitchen is a standout. It features a heavy-duty gas range, stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and a large handmade farm table.

All four bedrooms feature comfortable queen beds. Across the home's three bathrooms, guests will find a vintage clawfoot soaking tub in the primary bath, a shower in the upstairs guest bath, and a custom-built shower and vanity on the first floor. Please note the upstairs bathrooms have a small step down at the entrance.

Outdoor space includes a patio, and front porch — perfect for morning coffee or unwinding after a day of exploring. Games are available on-site for family entertainment.

    Guest Access:

Guests have full access to the entire home, including the kitchen, living areas, patio, and porch, plus on-site parking. Check-in is contactless: after signing the rental agreement and submitting a photo ID within 48 hours of booking, guests receive check-in instructions by email the week of their stay. For guest safety and smooth self-check-in, exterior security cameras may monitor the front and rear entrances only.

    The Neighborhood:

The Spy House sits on Camp Hill in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia — a National Historical Park town where 19th-century charm meets outdoor adventure. Despite its quiet, residential setting, the home is just a 10-minute walk from downtown's shops, restaurants, and the train station, and even closer to major landmarks: the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Headquarters (3 minutes on foot), Jefferson Rock (6 minutes), and John Brown's Fort (13 minutes). Wine lovers can explore nearby Loudoun County vineyards like 868 Estate Vineyards and Breaux Vineyards, craft beer fans can visit Abolitionist Ale Works or Harpers Ferry Brewing, and thrill-seekers can book zip-lining, whitewater rafting, or tubing trips through the Harpers Ferry Adventure Center. The confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers also makes this a top spot for kayaking, hiking the Appalachian Trail, and birdwatching.

    Getting Around:

The home is walkable to downtown Harpers Ferry and its Amtrak/MARC train station (about 10 minutes on foot), making it easy to explore without a car once you're settled in. On-site parking is available for those driving in. For regional travel, Martinsburg's Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport is about 30 minutes by car, and Hagerstown Regional Airport is roughly 55 minutes away. A car is recommended for reaching area wineries, spas, and restaurants a short drive away.

    Other Things to Note:

This home has a rich history — a former resident was investigated and later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage in the 1940s, giving the property its name. A signed rental agreement and valid photo ID are required within 48 hours of booking to finalize check-in details. Exterior cameras cover only the front and rear entry points. No fires are permitted in the indoor wood stove or anywhere on the grounds. All displayed rates include fees — no surprises at checkout.

    Interaction with Guests:

We're a responsive, hands-on host team available by phone, text, or message throughout your stay to answer questions or help with anything you need — while also respecting your privacy and space. Check-in instructions are sent electronically ahead of arrival for a smooth, self-guided arrival experience.
