"Great parking directly under the hotel. Restaurant across the street was delicious but took advantage of what they sold us (different review). Not pretty, but clean. Front staff on arrival was concerning, apparently if you don’t speak Vasco (Basque), the female at the desk, gets rude. Overall it was a place to stay. I would not stay in Gijon again, very industrial and loud. No rest because of a lovely train station next door."

Hotel Silken Ciudad Gijon

6/10 Okay

"Great parking directly under the hotel. Restaurant across the street was delicious but took advantage of what they sold us (different review). Not pretty, but clean. "The hotel is well-located in Oviedo. The bed was the HARDEST bed I’ve ever slept on…it was terrible. Valet did not come until 8:30 am so we had to walk to retrieve our car but it wasn’t too far. We did not try the spa or restaurant. The room was very pretty and had extra items in case you left any at home (razors, toothbrush, comb, etc.) no blanket on the bed, just sheets, so I covered up with two robes from in the closet to stay warm."

"Historic large monastery in the middle of nowhere, the archaeological display, monk’s cell, the reading room and the library are interesting and good to visit, but apart from going on a nature trail or booking a wine sampling, there isn’t much going on around here. They’ve taken the monastery theme to the extreme in the rooms - the monk’s cell had more useful furniture, but the bathrooms are very nice. Intended to eat dinner in the restaurant, but having been told to pick any table, we were then told very firmly to move, as that one had been laid for three! So we did, to exactly the same size table on the other side of the room. We then waited to order, but no one came with any offer of a drink or bread for over 25 minutes, so we left and had virtually the same meal in the bar! Told the lady on reception about this experience but she wasn’t interested. We ate in the courtyard outside the bar, on the second night and as both the barmen and the very hard working waitress were lovely and helpful, we had a very nice meal in good time."
