The roof area was open and we felt so lucky to have an area to see and watch the world go by on the river, and see the spectacular buildings from this vantage point. More bombs were dropped here in a single month than were dropped in London during all of WWII. Recently opened to the public, the underground Lascaris War Rooms played considerably into the changing tides of WWII – the success of Operation Husky (invasion of Sicily) represented the first steps for the Allies in taking the European mainland. Dwight Eisenhower and several other key Allied officials took residence there to co-ordinate offensive strikes in the Mediterranean. For any WWII buffs, this is a must stop.
