Spacious house in charming little village

We spend nearly a week in this nice, with love renovated town house that was once part of an old abbey. The church is right on the opposite of the entrance door and the market place is just under the terrace on the other side. Everything is exact like in the upper description. Everything was clean and neat. We just felt at home when we entered the door. We had Pizza on Saturday evening, bought our bread and things in the local supermarket and took a lot of walks around the village with our little dog. The only little disadvantage was, that one of the rooms has to be passed through to get in the other rooms. The people living around are friendly and welcoming. We once had to call someone for picking up his straying dog (please say hello to this really friendly dog named Scooby Doo if he visits You!) and we just rang at a house for someone making the phone call for us in French since our French is not so well and the lady was very friendly and not curious about us and just called the owner. This place is full of history as well as the whole area. We visited several churches and the grotto of Baume les Messieurs. You have to go there when You come there! And don´t forget to by the lovely cheese from Saint Julien! We would recommend this gite for everyone!

Wonderful house in beautiful Gigny

We spent a wonderful week in Gigny, in a very tastefully renovated old house. The location is perfect ( opposite the abbaye and from the terrace overlooking the 'town' square). In the village you will find a small bakery and a small but well-equiped supermarket. Everybody was very nice and patient with our horrible French. A car is really necessary for undertaking trips. In the house is various information about things to do available. Our children (10 and 13) missed having internet, but that was the only comment they had. We can warmly recommend this beautiful gite! van Dort family, The Netherlands

peace and quiet in La France Profonde

This is the perfect retreat for those who like the quiet life. The cottage is in a fine position, opposite the ancient Cluniac abbey.Gigny is not a pretty-pretty village but it is steeped in history. There are many ancient houses. The village is surrounded by wooded hills and fields, and the local cows have clanging bells. The local people are friendly and welcoming, although one needs to have a bit of French in order to communicate! Also, one must have a car,as there is no public transport- at least,we saw none. The local supermarket is well-stocked with local produce and general goods. The interior of the cottage is homely and there was everything we needed for a week's stay.It is the owner's second home and there are many of the children's books and games on shelves and in cupboards on the ground floor. There is no television, thank goodness. There are available several interesting books about life in the Jura and on La Petite Montagne in particular. We used the double bedroom. The bed provided a wonderful night's sleep. All the linens were of good quality. There was plenty of hanging space for clothes, but not enough shelf space for underwear, etc. The bathroom was very clean and well-appointed. We had a happy stay in Gigny. Thanks.

Peaceful stay - great sites and lakes

We were a family of 5, including 3 children between 3 and 7 and we had a lovely time in this very quiet village. The cottage being the secondary home of the owners is very functional - although there is one thing missing: a dish washer! A car is needed to visit the lovely sites in the area recommended by the owners in a booklet left in the cottage and what we enjoyed very much was the absolute quiet roads! The roads are always yours! Franco British couple from Bristol.
