"Very poor hotel not at all what I expected. The room itself was very poor everything very old, the net curtains were all ripped. The bathroom was a mess all the tiles where black mykids didnt even want a shower. The toilet did nt flush properly. Towel rail didnt even work. Extra bedding wasnt supplied had to ask as the room was booked for 2 adults and 1 child but there wasnt enough bedding was told the room was only booked for 2 people. Must stress that the young man that was on duty that night...

"Good hotel, well situated and definitely value for money. If car park can’t be made any bigger (understand why) then more considerate parking by those that use it would help as spend much time circling and re circling to find a space."

"The Yorkshire is very impressive with lovely decor and friendly staff. We were allocated room 111 and we opened the door and were hit by a wall of heat. We thought we’d turn the radiators down but they were already off. There was no chance of opening a window as there were no windows in the room! There were 3 fans in the room but they circulated hot air. We went to reception to ask for a room change but the hotel was full. We spent a very uncomfortable night. I dread to think what it would be like in hot weather as it was 16 degrees and raining. When we checked out, one of the staff said they wouldn’t have coped without windows. It is unacceptable to keep renting out rooms that are really not to a standard people would reasonably expect."

"The hotel is beautiful, and the communal areas are luxurious. Breakfast was delicious and a great selection. Comfy bed and nice spacious shower. My only disappointment was the room I was allocated compared to other rooms of similar prices I saw. I was in room 227, end of a corridor, it was small, no easy chair in the room so had to sit on the bed to watch TV. Having the fridge, safe and tea / coffee tray all stored in the wardrobe was odd, but then the room wasn't large enough to have them anywhere else I was there for a wedding weekend therefore did not feel comfortable comparing my room to other people's but after the event felt quite put out for what I paid. 🙁 It wouldn't stop me from staying again however I would be mindful of what kind of a room I was paying for."

"We stayed at The Queens Hotel for one night. Overall, it’s a solid, convenient place to stay in York, though there are a few trade-offs to keep in mind. Excellent Location: the hotel is fantastically situated just a 4-minute walk from the city centre, making it incredibly easy to explore. Our room was surprisingly spacious, and the bed was very comfortable, ensuring a good night's rest once things quieted down. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our short stay. Having parking directly on-site in York is a huge plus. While it isn't free, the price felt fair for the convenience. Things to Consider: the hotel is a bit dated in style and generally clean but lacks attentions to details and extra care in maintenance. Because it was a hot summer weekend, we had to leave our windows open on the waterside. Being so close to the center meant we could hear people out on the street until quite late, which did keep us awake for a while. If you are a light sleeper, you might want to request a room away from the street or bring earplugs for weekend stays. The breakfast food itself was perfectly okay, though we would have appreciated a bit more variety and choice when it came to the hot drinks. Despite the nighttime noise and the slightly older decor, the combination of a great location, private parking, and lovely staff makes it a very practical choice for a trip to York."

"Great hotel for a short stay close to the city centre. No storage and not much hanging space so probably only good for a couple of nights but room was great with good air con and a very comfy bed. Great breakfast available with a good choice of hot and cold food. Bar area quite noisy but good selection of drinks also a pool table and various games available to play. Staff were friendly and helpful."

DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel & Spa

"Check in is quite quick. You get a complementary cookie each in a bag which is a nice touch. Our room was spacious. It had a fridge in it which was a plus point along with a safe, hair drier, supplemental convector heater, large decent LCD telly a digital alarm clock and a fan. Internet is free for Hilton honours members. We found one stained pillow case on arrival but once informed reception they had it quickly changed by staff. The hotel is close Harrogate centre so it's excellent for a short walk in to town. Car parking in the hotel car park is £18 a night. If you have a disc zone disc you can park outside on the street for free if you arrive at 3 pm until 9 am next day. Breakfast is a self serve buffet. It was one of the better ones I've had at hotels and I couldn't really fault it at all. Spa access is complimentary for hotel guests. You are allowed one hour a day however on both days we were in longer than that and it was fine. I suspect it would only be enforced if it was really busy. Spa facilities consist of an indoor Jacuzzi which is good for 4 people maybe 6 at a squeeze, and it's nice and hot. Swimming pool was a a decent temperature too and typical hotel size. Sauna was nice and hot and good size. Steam room was also hot and a good size. There was an ice room alcove however the ice machine was u/s at time of visit. There is a hot tub outside too which was a nice additional touch. I would definitely return to this hotel and would recommend it."

Malmaison York

"Great location to see all the main attractions and vey close to the train station which is very handy. The hotel is very smart and the eat and drink options were very good. The room was very good apart from the lighting especially in the bathroom which was dark, the lights offering little. The shower was excellent. My only gripe was the girl who checked me in - she was disinterested and came across as dismissive. She didn't explain about wifi and the pool and spa facilities. My friend who checked in at the same time was dealt with by a very pleasant young man who was extremely helpful and quite a contrast. The other staff I dealt with in the bar, and rooftop location were incredibly helpful. Other than that I would recommend the hotel and would stay again."
