About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire cabin to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Cedar Bear Cabin - Cozy Mountain View Couples Retreat - Paved Drive & Starlink!

New - Paved Driveway, Deck Roof/Railing, and Starlink High-Speed Internet! We also recently had some trees topped off to improve the mountain view. We're constantly striving to improve our cabin amenities for you.

This cabin for couples is the perfect location for the two of you to enjoy all that Franklin, Highlands, Cashiers, and Sylva have to offer. Don't just take my word for it, check out the wonderful reviews that previous guests have left.

Enjoy your time relaxing in the cabin or the deck with a view of the mountain and the peace and quiet away from the hectic day-to-day, and reconnect with each other.

This beautiful, new, bear-themed, compact park model log cabin perched on a hill in Laurel Canyon between Franklin and Highlands, nestled between the trees with a breathtaking mountain view of Cedar Knob from the covered deck, is a wonderful spot in the mountains for a couple to get away to unplug, unwind, relax, and renew.

Conveniently located between Franklin, Highlands, and Cashiers with a short drive to the many area attractions and only a few minutes away from the scenic Cullasaja River Gorge, Cullasaja Falls, Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and Glenville Lake. Other nearby attractions include gem mining at Jackson Hole and antiquing at the nearby Whistle Stop. There are plenty of attractions, restaurants, and local festivals/events in nearby Franklin and Highlands. Google the Discover Franklin, NC tourism and Macon County Chamber of Commerce websites for attractions and festival/event schedules. 45-minute drive to Cherokee and the Smoky Mountains.

Built in 2018 by Green River Cabins, this "Yearling" model cabin is fully furnished with a kitchen that is ready for cooking, cozy breakfast bar, and barstools, a living room with dual recliner love seat, an electric fireplace, and TV with Blu-Ray/DVD player, full bedroom with a queen-sized bed and plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for all of your personal items, compact washer and dryer, and bathroom with 48” shower, ceiling fans in the living room/kitchen area and bedroom. There is a gas grill on the covered deck for grilling and rocking chairs to sit and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountain across the canyon.

The driveway is fully paved now, no more worry about getting up the gravel driveway or needing all wheel drive, you could climb it easily in a Prius. Getting to the cabin, there are no gravel roads to travel. The upper parking area can accommodate two vehicles. A lower parking area at the base of the drive can accommodate a small vehicle..

The cabin is equipped with Starlink satellite internet service at the cabin with free wi-fi. Speeds can vary depending on weather and other factors, but it's more than plenty for 2 people (100mbps, often more). For streaming, web surfing and e-mail, it's amazingly fast, although you may experience an occasional blip on teleconferencing apps in the summer moths.

There is a 50" Roku smart TV in the living room with Blu-Ray player and a selection of DVDs. There is a 32" Roku smart TV in the bedroom. You can log in to your favorite streaming services with Roku (Sling, Hulu, YoutubeTV, Netflix, Amazon, Disney, etc.) and enjoy your favorite shows and movies in the cabin. There is no landline telephone service or local TV channels.

Cellular service in the mountains is spotty so we have installed a cellular booster kit at the cabin. AT&T works best (3-5 bars), Verizon gets a fair service (1-2 bars). One of our recent guests that has Sprint reported that they had cell service at the cabin. We have not tested with other carriers. Cell phone reception can vary depending on the time of year (tree cover), weather, and the phone's internal antenna (some models are better than others). If your phone supports internet calling, just connect it to the Starlink high-speed internet.

We hope you’ll love our little cabin as much as we do and that you will feel relaxed, refreshed, renewed, and reconnected after your stay.

Smoking is allowed outside on the deck with the doors closed, but not inside the cabin.

There is an additional 10% discount for stays 7 nights or longer.

Perfect location for a couple wanting to be isolated from most of the world. Great place to stay in and read, or to drive a few miles to hike, shop, or eat. We hope to have the opportunity to return several times.

Very pleasant stay in the Black Bear Cove cabin. The owner is phenomenal with his communication and availability. The property is very clean and dry with the addition of the covered patio. The newly paved entrance up to the property was greatly appreciated. Overall gets the max stars for everything. Would stay again and again.

This property is just the right distance from congestion to be peaceful and quiet, and yet not inconvenient. The entire location is very well kept and clean. There are numerous modern conveniences. And the manager is easy to communicate with. Overall, a great place to stay.

The cabin was absolutely adorable, super clean, and just the right size for my husband and me. The driveway was just a little tight for our really big truck, but we made it...4 wheel drive going and coming. I did think it was a little odd that the air conditioning couldn't be turned down below 76. That's hard for a menopausal woman with hot flashes. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Thank you, again, for your hospitality.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Black Bear Cove! What a cozy little cabin with every amenity you need. The only issue we had was the steep driveway (which owner did warn about) but we made it up each time! I'm just glad my husband did the driving and we were in his Nissan truck. The cabin was perfect for our 35th wedding anniversary weekend. Thanks so much!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cozy little cabin. We were wishing we had booked for longer than four nights. The view is beautiful and the cabin was very clean, warm and welcoming. John was awesome with communicating and very quick to respond to any of our questions. He was also very helpful with recommending local attractions and restaurants. We would love to visit again next year!!

Consistent with the last time I stayed, all was wonderful. Cabin is clean and comfortable - love the beautiful view. This trip I enjoyed some different hikes - the Cliffside Recreation Area on the way to Highlands has a nice picnic area, place for swimming, and several trails. Communication with owners is consistently great. This is a wonderful get away spot for solo's or couples looking for a quiet spot central to many great outdoor activities.

We had an amazing time! The cabin was so clean and so cozy. I loved the fireplace and all of the bear furnishings. We did have to use our 4WD to get up the last hill. Unfortunately (or fortunately) we were not able to use our cell phones. We have Verizon, and we were only able to receive a few texts. We could not stream Netflix or any of the features on the TV. We did enjoy the DVDs that were provided at the cabin. If you are looking for a quiet get away, this is a perfect place for you.

We were thoroughly pleased with the cabin it was gorgeous and set upon a hill where the view was stunning and yes the drive way was Streep . The only downfalls we’re no internet and since we own 3 businesses and needed it it was a little rough but we made do by going to town but they made up for that by supplying tons of awesome movies to watch and it gave quality time with my wife. Definitely no interruptions . The lower parking space was not explained very well so we brought out motorcycles in my trailer and that did not work as its super tiny so we had to go find parking but as a whole it rocks just don’t take a trailer.

I read previous reviews and everyone else's assessment was pretty spot on. I will add that we drove in very late and had a bit of trouble getting in. Called the owner (sorry for the late call) and he was very nice about the whole thing. Additionally we ended up taking a wrong turn and went all the way up someone elses drive. She was very nice allowed us to turn around in her driveway and waited until we were safely turned around. The cabin was very nice. We new what to expect with the cell signal amd driveway so those were mon factors. I would 100% recommend this for any couple that needs a nice get away.

This was the perfect cabin for my husband and I to get away in! It is fully stocked with everything you will need and very clean with a great view and a comfortable bed. Stop at a grocery store before you get to the cabin because you will not want to leave and it will take about an hour to go to town and back. We enjoyed hiking all the nearby waterfalls, ate dinner at the Lazy Hiker in Franklin the first night and ate at the Ugly Dog in Highlands the second night. The cabins description will tell you that you need a 4 Wheel Drive or all wheel drive. This is not a joke! There is a very small pad to park your car at the bottom of the hill but it is very compact. The view from the bedroom and living room of this cabin is so beautiful and just hanging out at the cabin is so comfortable and fun. We will stay again!!

This is a great getaway for two. My husband picked this as a getaway before school starts back. Teaching takes over when it does. This is surrounded by sweet little towns. It’s not far from Franklin, Highlands or Bryson City. We explored all 3. There are some great places to hike near by too.. We also explored Glen Falls. I dislocated both my knees and we stayed at the cabin and rested the whole last day. The recliners and pillows came in handy to get the swelling down. This cabin is so adorable. It has such a cute bear theme throughout. I absolutely could not have been happier with our stay. Bed was comfy. Kitchen has everything you need as well. We will be back. Thanks for making everything so carefree and easy.

My husband and I had a wonderful time together at the cabin. It's very clean, cozy, and quiet, and just right for two. The bed is excellent! And it was a wonderful time to go - the end of September, beginning of October, with just a nip in the air. Our only hesitation in giving a 5-star review is the mounted sign on the deck, giving the OK for handguns on the premises. I don't remember the exact wording of the sign, other than its approval of firearms and the phrase, "judicious marksmanship." The presence of the sign made us uneasy. We don't feel safe around guns, so the mention of them on our getaway made it a little more challenging to "get away." Had we known to expect the sign, we could have been more mentally prepared, or perhaps we could have made a different choice. I share in case there are others who might want the same information. Still, it is a beautiful little home in a gorgeous part of the world.

My friend and I stayed here a few days ago. Very nice, cozy, high up, well kept property with scenic overlook of woods below from deck. There was a slight issue with the toilet not flushing (not from any objects we placed there other than regular human waste) and filling up one morning. The plunger didn't seem to work, and we had to leave it for a preplanned hike. However, it ended up going down some while were out and finally went all the way down later that evening with more plunging so we didn't contact the property manager. Other than that slight inconvenience it was a great stay. Its best to have a 4x4 vehichle being that it is so high up and the path is gravel. However, we did manage the climb in our car in reverse due to RWD. The day we left there was a car that came up and parked in front of the shed as we were about to get in the car and leave. I figured it was the property manager (but not certain) and wanted to say hello and compliment the place in person, but they did not get out of the car so we eventually left. Great, comfy stay though!

We really enjoyed our time at the cabin. We cooked breakfast every morning and even watched a dvd one evening. The cabin is well stocked with everything you need to cook and to make your stay comfortable. We enjoyed a picnic at Tiger Mountain Vineyards, a visit to the falls, and even saw the Gatlin Brothers while we were there. We really enjoyed our visit to Foxfire museum and even found time to visit a flea market and shop for antiques. We will definitely be back.
